Normandy Resistance

Day 807, 17:35 Published in USA USA by Heather Fuchs

This week we follow the Men and women of Charlie Co. 1st Platoon as they cause chaos in Normandy.

Dateline: Lower Normandy

Darkness covered the movements of Charlie Co. 1st Platoon as they silently rowed ashore near the coastal city of Avaranches. A half moon guided them to shore as their infiltration placed them in the shadow of Mt. Saint Michael in Lower Normandy. Not every operation conducted by the Mobile Infantry is done guns full blazing with a clear enemy right in front of them. That’s why they called Charlie 1, one of the best in the MI for covert operations and espionage. They, along with most of the MI, were infiltrating themselves into English occupied France to fight an unclean resistance war against very unmerciful foe. The politics in this battle were off the charts, Frenchmen trying to reclaim a region they once thought safe, British SAS commando’s helping the resistance fighters ostensibly against their own government but in reality, with their blessing, and the MI going in to fan the flames of Chaos and turn this demonstration into a bloodbath.

As the unit offloaded and reached the safety of the forest tree line Pvt. Mimzil, who was relatively new to the unit, turned to the platoon XO, Sgt. Gobogen, and whispered the obvious question “Hey sarge, I can gather where we got our forged identifications and security papers, but were did the QM come up with these English Army uniforms and equipment.

Before his XO had a chance to reply Pvt. John Marcus, one of the more veteran members of the outfit and a grad student in his spare time replied “We took them off their bloody corpses after we shot the cowards while we kicked out of our god damned country.” Smiling he continued, “Look, yours has a hole in it exactly 3 inches from your heart to your left”. Sure enough as Mimzil looked down he saw the stitched up pattern of a bullet hole repair in his uniform.
Sgt. Gobogen laughe😛 “Must have been Maykani who shot him then. She was only a lieutenant back then and wasn’t half the shot she is now.”

Pvt. Maykani, who is a colonel now and just 2k damage shy of general, smiled. “All my shots have a 3 inch margin of error when I shoot them in the chest. I don’t want to damage that nice juicy heart before I cut it out and take a nice hearty bite now ya hear”

Pvt. Mimzil gulped as he pictured Maykani tearing apart the unlucky soul that last occupied the uniform he was currently wearing. “I’d like a different uniform, please” he whispered and the platoon responded with a roar of laughter.

Lt. Greene12, the platoon CO, called the platoon over for a briefing after they had stowed their gear in the woods and had made sure their appropriated English Army uniforms were on correctly. “Ok People listen up. You know I’d much rather be bashing Hun’s but here we are in Normandy. Some of you have been around the block for a long time and know the serious risks involved in covert operation and the rest of you think we are F**king James Bond. Well James Bond works for the enemy now and don’t you damn well forget it.
Our orders are simple, we create Chaos. Phoenix staged this little demonstration here to try to give Normandy back to the French. Furthermore, the Brass upstairs is launching a heavy raid on England to divert their attention elsewhere. Our personal success here is going to be measured on how well we, and are allies, perform today. That’s why you have those enemy uniforms on. Pvt. Shiloh13 has the best accent and will be our personal translator for this mission. He talks before anyone else. However, I will give the signal before we open fire is that clear?”
“HELL YES, SIR!” his platoon replied in chorus.
“Ok, good to see your all in high spirits. Now Shiloh13 is on point. Let’s move out.
Charlie 1 reached the first checkpoint on their way to the electrical grid power station of Avaranches which was their target. Lt. Greene12 and Shiloh13 approach the checkpoint to see if they could bluff their way through. The British sentry saw them and demanded the password.
Shiloh13 raised his voice and returned the codeword provided by MI intelligence “Harry Potter Lives” while thinking to himself that some wanker in intelligence is going to get them all killed. But, the British guards motioned them on by and began to relax going back to a game of darts that for some reason their targets were two goats apparently stuffed for safety sake.
(Jesus Christ that worked????!!!!) They thought.
“So what outfit do you chaps come from and where are you all going” asked the curious British lieutenant.
“1st Division, we were just sent down from Cherbourg to reinforce this area but our truck broke down” Shiloh13 casually replied.
A now alarmed British lieutenant stared at the platoon and replied “You’re what broke down? You mean your lorries broke down?”

Pvt. Shiloh13 quickly searched for the words to reply and but nothing came out.
Lt. Greene12 sighed and called out to the rest of the platoon “Ok, conversations over people just shoot them.”
The rest of the platoon opened fire on the British soldiers before they were able to pick up their weapons and return fire. Thanks to the training and excellence of Charlie 1 the fight was over in less than a minute. One of the British privates almost made it to the field phone to warn his command but Private Cerrian, who just got his Super Solider level 2 medal, put some of the best shots in the entire company to good use by first being able to put a bullet in the Britt’s hand causing him to drop the phone and then by putting a second round dead center in the bastards helmet.
They were about to form up when a group of French resistance fighters notice the violence done by their supposed allies and came to the correct conclusion right away that “eh those guys are not Le Britt’s” and opened fire, obviously forgetting that they typically surrender first and ask questions later. Pvt. Drsofo was hit right away in the shoulder and went down while the rest of the platoon took up firing positions. Sgt. Gobogen and Pvt. Oberstos, in true MI fashion, immediately flanked the resistance fighters, who with most of their military in tatters, and because they were French, obviously did not have much military training beyond how to fire their weapons. Together they took out 2 of the Frenchmen and wounded another before the rest took to running away. It’s something they had been doing together since Septemeber when they both were commissioned to the MI on the same day. Not many can stand up the firepower and heat of the MI and couple that with the Frenchmen’s cowardice nature you have “Retreating Gone Wild.”
Lt. Greene12 ordered John Marcus to take a look at drsofo’s wound. Because “grad student = smart = medic” that’s the military way of doing things.
“I can keep going.” Drsofo stated, more angry than injured, “Just wait till John Marcus patches me up.”
“As good as it is to hear your enthusiasm you’re in no condition to do much fighting with that shoulder and I’m afraid those resistance fighters will alert the British. Unless we can come up with something fast our mission is a scratch.” Lt. Greene12 replied worriedly.

Oberstos turned to the Lt and motioned him over to the field phone and the dead British private. “Hey boss, take a look at this phone. These guys are artillerymen. That must mean that have a battery of guns nearby. If we can locate those guns and turn them on the power station our mission is still a go.”
"That’s a hell of an idea, Good work Private. Ok people, here’s what’s going on. Maykani and mimzil will go back to the raft with our drsofo and await pickup. The rest of us are going to follow this wire to those guns and have at that power station. Nothing is going to stand in the way of our mission, nothing ever has and nothing ever will, and this one if going down in the history books people.” Lt. Green declared.

Later that night as resistance flames covered Lower Normandy at exactly 21:00 hours the lights went out in the entire Avaranches region, and while no one knows for sure, some say it was preceded by a thunderous blast that shook the night sky before all the light was extinguished.
