No to persons, Yes to lists!
Gooffree
Yesterday, ElPatoDiablo showed me a banner announcing changes in the political module.
I said to myself: "Oh great! Finally some good news!"
But hey, today I've found out one of the changes: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Congress_Elections
Long story short, you won't be able to vote for your favorite congressman, you will only vote for party lists. But even voting for the party of your favorite politician won't be a guarantee that he will get a seat in the Congress because it matters his position on the list.
So, if the Party President (PP) (someone named Gooffree for example) doesn't get along with one of the members (eg. Wally Cleaver), he will simply put that person last on the list, or somewhere on a non eligible position.
Let's say Wally Cleaver is a member of Gooffree's Great Party (a Top 5 Party) and he wants to run for Congress. You guys love Wally Cleaver and you want him as a Congressman. You will have to vote for my party to get him there.
The Gooffree's Great Party (GGP) List for 25th of September:
1.Gooffree
2.Gooffree's friend
3.Gooffree's brother
......
20.Gooffree's enemy
21. Wally Cleaver
Probably GGP will get 10 out of 40 seats in Congress. Wally Cleaver can write how many articles he wants, Wally Cleaver can help Canada and its citizens, that won't do much unless Wally Cleaver is put by the PP (namely me) on one of the first 10 places. He likes the party's doctrine so he won't quit. Even if he quits and joins another top 5 party, he has to take an eligible position out of one member in that new party.
Hopefully there will be some good changes too, otherwise this will drive off the citizens from country administration even more than now.
Gooffree,
Congressman of Saskatchewan

Thank God in CPF we have a great PP, but still...
oh, so I see the strategy.
Put someone highly desirable at the very bottom of the list. That way the voters who REALLY want that person to win (or whoever is buying the most votes) has to vote/buy a TON to get that highly desirable candidate to the top.
Gotta say...it may be a very good idea to put people who 'have' a lot of votes behind them at the bottom. It will benefit the party greatly.
Thanks for volunteering Plugson.
Yup, at least this was done in RL in some elections based on lists.
The new players will have a hard time getting a seat in Congress, unless a strategy like this.
Exalted, you'd be much better bait as a bottom-runger. I encourage you to go for it ; )
ah, i see. so your party can use big famous people to advertise...
"vote for us cuz we have plugson" etc, even if they wont be the ones getting the congress seat
All this does is make the PP act like a manager of a baseball team, he'll set his lineup, and hope for the best.
In the Wiki page it says the list isnt published in game .. "On the election day, the citizen will not see the list to choose a candidate but he will be in the situation to take an easier decision, to vote for a party."
So unless the PP puts out a list, we dont know who the candidates are... which leaves room for PP's to create favourable, yet false lists to increase their chances
The puzzling part to me is: "The parties that are in top 5 on every 24th of the month at 00:00 will be the ones able to have Congress candidates."
What's a "top 5 party"? It can't be based on past elections because we'll only be able to vote among 5 parties, so we'd forever have the same 5.. is it based on membership?
It puts the PP in an awkward position, say if 7 Congressional seats are won by their party, line up choice 8 and beyond are gonna wonder why their PP failed to pick them higher. I am debating whether I want my party to help me set up the lineup, ask a few trusted advisers for help, or simply pick the lineup myself.
Ah, it's a secret list. Even better for 'democracy' eh? Now a PP can take a little extra money for a person to be bumped up a few spots. It's now more important to elect PPs the party can trust.
Barney, Top 5 is determined by total members.
Quimbie, it'll be a good idea to consult with a 'Counsel' for setting up the list. Going open with the whole membership will lead to lots of words and probably some bad feelings in the process.
People will of course feel snubbed by the cutoff line. So the PP may be wise to publish a Congress Candidate line-up to explain his picks so that members can understand his reasons better.
That is what I was thinking. It's going to be a bit of a challenge to balance some egos. Hopefully if I am honest an forthright with the lower tier candidates, they won't get too upset. I mean 1st time candidates and young'ins really can't expect that they can butt to the head of the line... can they?
Almost a double edged sword the way Plugson describes it. Problem is which end is sharper...
The challenge, really, will to get out the vote. The more members that vote for their party in the Congressional election, the more seats that party will win (it's simple math really). I can see mass PMs in my near future.
"I can see mass PMs in my near future."
I can see a full message box on the 15th of each month. When logging on, prepare to be spammed.
Sorry Plugs... blame the game, not the player.
That wasn't aimed at you specifically. I just meant that SVTs will now be spamming people who log on instead of trying to direct member votes.
I know man, no worries. I will keep my PMs within my party, I promise.
Hmmm. Interesting. Looks like PP is about to be as hotly contested as CP.
Multi's will have more of an undesirable effect on congress election. It can be seen as both good and bad at this point.
~hyuu~
Ain't this something.
''Multi's will have more of an undesirable effect on congress election. It can be seen as both good and bad at this point.'' Not really Vry, cuz the admins are suppose to remove the multies vote from any election, then again does the admins always does their job.... We'll only have to wait and see....
