News and Notes, Day 1477

Day 1,477, 18:04 Published in USA USA by Tosh O'Point

The US is back in full control of the war after losing initiative last week to the Serbians. That slipup allowed Serbia to take Alabama, effectively cutting off capitol region Florida and dropping the productivity of US businesses. Those fortunes are now reversed, with the successful liberation of Delaware and the conquest of Serbian-held Aquitaine (France) giving Americans a 60% bonus in weapon production. Workers could see even more results later this week if forces were to capture either Brittany (Polish-occupied France) or Languedoc-Roussillon (Serbian France); both have Fish resources that would increase the American food production bonus to an impressive 80%.

The battle for Aquitaine today was especially impressive. Many Americans fought in the battle yesterday and considered it an easy win, feeling little resistance from the Serbians. With the US easily in the lead 5:0 around server reset, Penegrin reported on a Serbian surge that took the lead late in the 6th battle to mark the first point for the defense. The Serbians took several more battles overnight and into the early afternoon (US time), and while the American-led offense needed just one more win, it looked as though Serbia might be able to hold off the attack and regain initiative. The US was close in several of the final battles, often going for long stretches down just 0.25% influence. In the final, winner-take-all battle, the Serbians jumped out to the lead early, but American and allied forces fought back and eventually picked up an important win to close out the campaign. It was the first successful attack on a non-domestic region since the current invasion began over one month ago.

The initial impact of these battles will be an increased supply of food and weapons, allowing Americans to fight more in the battles at a lower cost. Hopefully some of the surplus will be able to be sold abroad, improving the financial position of the US government and her citizens.

In political news, Oblige won the US Presidential race with relative ease after leading challenger Haliman dropped out of the race to deal with real-world family issues. His cabinet (found here) includes more than 50 players serving as department secretaries, deputies, program directors, interns, and advisors. Oblige promised in his campaign to increase the media activity of the government, to address the tax code, and a continued campaign against Serbia. Point Taken will aim to interview the president later in this term to find out how he’s doing.

New Conservative Party leader Pizza the Hut II called for action from forum administrator PiginZen, claiming that Henry Arundel (aka Pfeiffer, who gave this paper an interview last week) was abusing his power as a moderator of the national forums and should be removed from power. In response, PiginZen announced his intentions to run for president of the NCP. The former president plans to restore integrity to the party and transform it into a vibrant and respected party. Pizza the Hut II has been accused by his many detractors as putting too much emphasis on real-world ideologies even when they have little relevance to the game of eRepublik. Others have accused him of playing unfairly by using multiple accounts, a claim supported by a recent Jude Connors article linking Mr. Hut to a recently banned account in the UK.

In a statement sent to Point Taken, Mr. Hut again called for what he called Mr. Zen’s “undying, disturbing loyalty to Pfeiffer.” “There should be no place in our nation for this most villainous character and it is time that he be called out and exposed to all for the megalomaniac that he is.”

Mr. Zen responde😛 "The NCP is a languishing institution in the eUSA political realm. It is under constant PTO threat from the rest of the political parties in the eUSA, its members are targeted for defeat in Congressional races [...] because so few people outside of the NCP trust Pizza the Hut II."

"People will want to make this about PtH, and it does begin with him, but really it is more about the remaining 300+ members of the party. I am committed to the NCP and it's promise."

Finally, I am happy to announce that I have been named American ambassador to Canada. I have already begun working with Canadian president Addy Lawrence and am looking forward to strengthening the already unbreakable ties between our two great nations.
