New Player Lessons

Well I haven't written an article in a while so I would now like to take the time to offer some lessons I have learned to newer players. I do not claim to be an expert by any means but I have been around for almost 100 days and have learned a thing or two:

1) Just because you can have a newspaper doesn't mean you should

One of the dumbest mistakes I have made in this game is wasting two gold on a newspaper at a young age. I did not understand the game mechanics well enough and it led to be posting stupid articles full of wrong information. I know it can be exciting to publish articles but if you don't understand the game well enough it can put a serious dent in your reputation. I would recommend posting in your party forums and the main forum before forming a newspaper. Also read newspaper articles from high ranking players to get a better idea for how the game works.

2) Just because you can run for congress doesn't mean you should

Believe me I have been there. When you first realize that you are eligible to run for Congress it is very exciting. You think to yourself that you can finally get passed two-clicking and make a real difference. I would encourage you to think real hard before running for congress because of the following reason. Real life politics are not eRep politics. Insults especially those directed to a more advanced player will surely backfire. There have been countless new players that have tried to weasel their way into congress by insulting an older player (ex. Shermain against ligtreb). People in eRep keep a long memory and if you falsely accuse another player your chances for ever winning an election are very slim. You might as well start over. Please think before you run for congress.

3) Keep real life stuff separate from eRep stuff

People come to eRep because they want to play a game. If they want sports they will watch ESPN. If they want real life news they will watch CNN. If they want to place a bet they will do it with a gambling website or a bookie using real money not fake money or fake gold from eRep. Please keep this stuff separate. These things have there place and eRep is not it.
