New player? Do not work in a Q5 company!

Day 862, 05:02 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by dh219

Welcome to the new players. Be careful on the job market.

Occasionally in eRepublik we see economic warfare of the most malicious sort: baby-killing. This normally entails creating a high-Q company in an enemy's market and offering unprofitably high wages for very low skill jobs in an attempt to draw in new players.

You lose wellness when you work.

When a player works, he loses 1 level of wellness for each Q-level of the company he works for. You can work once per day. You receive wages and your wellness reduces. This reduction needs to be compensated for by either buying food (you eat one item of food per day too) or receiving a gift.

Gifts are expensive and you need someone you trust to hand them to you.

Food is therefore the only way to go, as a new player won't have a house to aid in the wellness process. An item of food increases your wellness based on a formula that is linear in terms of the foods quality. Higher Q food => more wellness recovered.

If you work in a high-Q company, you need to buy high-Q food.

High-Q food costs more than a new player can earn.

You, as a new player, cannot afford to buy this high quality food. At best you'll be buying Q2. probably Q1 until your skill rises enough to get a better job and afford Q2 and above food.

If, therefore, you work in a Q5 company and buy Q1 food along with training once per day (as you should), you will have a net loss of around 5 wellness per day. You only have 100 to start with.

Why does this matter?

Wellness is a vital part of eRepublik. High wellness means you're more productive (you'll earn better wages at wellness 95 than Joe Slob with wellness 45) but it also means you're more effective on the battlefield. The former is vital to you. The latter to your nation.

No, wellness does not mean this.

What should I look out for?

Avoid signing up for a job from a company that's not Q1 (one star) until you can afford Q3 food daily. You can spot the economic warfare companies a mile off as they're very high quality companies offering many many low skill jobs.

At present UK Food Q5 is one. It's Romanian (an enemy state) in origin and is offering hundreds of jobs to low-skill workers for a few pence more than the real companies, hoping to entrap you.

Do not work for UK Food Q5!
