New Major Updated, and my first article

Day 1,188, 19:16 Published in USA USA by umbertoheli

Recently, the eRepublik admins have released two major updates that drastically changed the Economic Module and the Social aspect of the game. These two modifications to the game have had a lot of controversy among the players since they were released.
These updates are clearly a plan to make eRepublik more visually appealing to people, by imitating popular Internet sites like Facebook and Twitter, in hopes of bring more people to play the game.
In this post, I will talk about the Pros and Cons of both changes. Let’s start with the first one released, the My Land Update.

This update replaced the My Places dropdown tab with 2 new ones. First, is the My Land tab which lets you access the Training Grounds, the Company you work with, the companies you own, and the land spaces you have available (I will explain these later in this post). The second tab they added is the Wars tab, which easily lets you access all wars available in your country.
Land spaces: These new components are basically the spaces you have in which you can build a company. They cost 1000 local currency and they are kept when you dissolve or sell a company. When the update was released, they gave each player 3 lands.

Now, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the new Economic Module:

Pros:
- It will provide an actual use for normal currencies, besides buying food and weapons, and will decrease the demand of Gold in the monetary market, lowering its price.
- The more graphical appearance for accessing different places makes the game more interactive and probably will attract more players.
- The lowered cost for the first 3 companies (since you already own those 3 free land spaces) will submerge players interested in the economic aspect of the game faster than before, thus keeping their interest and preventing them from leaving the game quickly.

Cons:
- Since new players can make or buy companies for less golds, there was an impressive amount of companies created in a very short amount of time; and the whole market crashed for a few days. Salaries skyrocketed, since the demand for workers was higher than the supply; this caused many company owners to start losing money as they had to increase their worker´s pay. Prices for many products fell, specially Q1 companies and resource companies, because they were the cheapest and the most accessible for people creating new companies.
- Since people realized making a company was cheaper, they started buying massive amounts of gold. This created an economic chaos from we are still recovering. Before the update, 1 gold was around 70 USD, and now (day 1,18😎 its at 128 USD. This completely devaluated our currency, but in the long run it will lower back to normal.

The other, and more recent, update is the new shout system. The game originally allowed only 3 free shouts, and you could buy more. This permitted the system to be used as an important and easy way to transmit news. Then the admins replaced the Ads with the new ability to use 30 shouts.
Now, they entirely changed shouts. Now you get unlimited “shouts” and you can comment on other people’s shouts. This new system is clearly trying to imitate Facebook and Twitter as I said before.
Pros:
- You don’t have to see 10 shouts directed at people you don’t know with the new comment function.
- For people who like to shout a lot, you now have unlimited shouts

Cons:
- Shout are now an even less effective method of distributing important information than before.
- You cannot see what people shouted in their profile, so you don’t know what language they speak if you want to friend them

In conclusion, I think what admins are doing, just to get more popularity and to imitate other websites, is destroying the delicate balance in every country’s economy and if they keep it up, I see a new depression coming.
