New EDEN referendum needed
Death and Taxes
Hello everyone,
This is my first article for India having arrived on your hallowed shores about two weeks ago. As is my nature, I decided I would stay silent and sit back and just observe. I would have liked to have continued this for some time, but recent events have forced my hand.
First, a little bit about me. I'm RL Irish, a recent GoW and just celebrated by first ebirthday. I've played and participated in all three aspects of the game. I have always been actively involved in military adventures, being quartermaster for the eIrish boot camp, founding and running an MU, and being an MoD amongst other things.
I've also run successful businesses but got out about four months ago when the economic module was starting to fall apart, melting down my companies to refund to full training strength.
In the political module, apart from being an MoD, I've also been a military advisor and acted behind the scenes for the Irish Freedom Party bringing it into the top 5 and a regular place at the ministerial table.
More important than all these elements however, my main attribute has been to be looked upon as honourable and trustworthy. When one of our best players was forced to leave this game thanks to the administrators, he deemed that I was the one of the few citizens to trust his 343,000 CC to until our finances were secure. You see, recently we lost a total of 4m to thieves that we trusted, and that can be a very difficult thing to get over and was one of the many reasons why I left. This money now resides with our MoF.
But enough of the me...me...me stuff. Let me tell you why I'm writing this article. In my stint as MoD, our CP promised that we would have a referendum on leaving EDEN. Because of this, and being MoD, I felt it was important that our citizens should be aware of the consequences of leaving and so I wrote this article here
You might do me the honour of reading that article. It was looked upon as being broadly in favour of us joining CoT. Indeed it was. Why? Because as MoD at the time I have to think about what is best for the country I represent in military terms only. EDEN is a dying force as it currently stands unless things are turned around, so leaving her and MPP'ing Bulgaria and Brazil ensures we are safe from the UK, our nearest neighbour.

OK, back again.
So our CP did what he promised and had a referendum here. Now you'll notice how we did our referendum, it was entrusted to an upstanding member of our community, not a CP or MoFA. However, as you can see from the reaction to the article, people weren't happy. Why? Because the referendum was done at the last minute, because it was not widely advertised, and because people only had 24 hours to vote.
So because of the small turnout, it was declared null and void by common consent, and the new CP decided to have a more structured and organised one. You can read about how this was organised here.
So, a closed referendum using Google Docs over 48 hours, wildly advertised with three bean counters ensuring fairness and integrity. You all know that the result was to leave EDEN here. This was a very professional referendum that people could believe in, including critically, our allies in EDEN.
Please compare this to the complete mess eIndia has made on its own referendum on staying in GEA. There's absolutely no comparison. Therefore, while I do not doubt that the referendum result is correct in that a majority of eIndians want to leave EDEN, I stridently object to the manner with how the referendum was held, how the result was announced, and on the publication of those who voted and what they voted for.
I object in the strongest terms why no debate was formulated before the referendum, so that the country could debate these issues in the open, with the consequences of leaving examined. I also don't see any great 'plan' on what our next steps are, apart from being imminently wiped perhaps.

I have no doubt on the integrity of the MoFA and the CP, I just doubt their abilities to make fair and just decisions in this particular regard. As I am not active on IRC and I am not in Congress, I hereby acknowledge that I am missing a lot of information about what is happening behind the scenes.
But as a citizen, I object to this mushroom treatment. I have a right to ask for and expect, a proper referendum and discussion.
Thank you for reading, I hope this article engenders some response and debate.
Comments
Gov had the right to declare neutrality without referendum. We are part of GEA and not EDEN. Both congress and the people supported the idea of leaving "The Brotherhood"
well as far as responses go...
1. Agreed - the referendum was unprofessional and allowed a group to abuse it.
2. "being wiped" ... is not the same as "oh my God I am HIV positive" or "look man, you got cancer" ... its a game and most of us would rather enjoy respect than a few pixels that are worthless. I wonder though who will do the "wiping"?
3. A debate did occur on IRC between citizens who have been part of eIndia more than 6 months+ This is the minimum time frame to know who is trustworthy and who isnt. It has nothing to do with race, colour, culture or nationality. All points were put forward fairly and debated upon... including ensuing circumstances.
Sure, we will have a proper referendum ... but the repeated calls for "what does India contribute to EDEN? how much damage does india do FOR EDEN"... are hurting things more than any TWO/COT propaganda... (just thought Id let u know the obvious)
Let me be clear, this is purely about holding a professional referendum and calling that last one null and void. Any other comments are irrelevant. I also object that citizens that have been part of India for 6 months+ were consulted and nobody else. Any citizen's vote is equal to anyone else regardless of the length of time they have been here. I'm sure there are trolls and thieves in India that have been here for 6 months+ why should they have a say and not me?
Is this a democratic nation? I would have hoped so.
So once again, this is about a proper referendum that people can believe and trust in.
😁😁^
1. The government should lead. It has.
2. Referenda are one source of information.
3. Discussion can continue.
4. Future governments may take a different position. Governments should lead and discussion can continue.
5. Formal deficiencies in the previous referendum are obvious. But government should lead and there has been very very little popular objection to its decision.
6. Discussion about the way forward can start. The Mpp stack would be a good point of departure.
7. Who spilled all the milk?
Governments come and go, but the people are paramount. Let the people decide, but let them decide in a proper manner
Good luck in your new country D&T.
Of course, there was a fundamental weakness in using Google Docs for that 3rd EDEN referendum. How many votes were cast using someone else's citizen link? We'll never know.
I'm impressed the citizens of eIndia are analyzing the referendum and the decision to make changes to its alliance membership. Back in my home eNation, our Congress mishandled a key vote on EDEN membership that caused our withdrawal but hardly anyone batted an eye.
Seems that serious changes in course are worth serious scrutiny. Keep at it. o7
Good article.

Apparently we can't officially do anything until congress has agreed to it.

Please, lets have a proper referendum.
