NBA Gold Theft: The Verdict
patti11
Hey Australia,
Here is the reply from the admins, and they have now closed the ticket. The ruling is that it was negligence that we have lost the gold, and it will not be returned. I will keep show you the exchange between myself and the admins so you can make a decision on the matter for yourselves and to be as transparent as possible on the matter.(messages have been edited for ease of reading):
Patti11-05/09/09:
The account National Bank of Australia (http://www.erepublik.com/en/organization/228761) has mysteriously lost over 1k gold, presumably through the Monetary Market.
Only 4 citizens have access to the org:
Country President Ranger Bob (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1343855)
Vice President scotywest (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1508010)
Finance Ministers Son of Rambo (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1447355) and
TheBlackAdder (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1224223)
I was can also confirm that According to an admin, the last person to access the account (on that day) was a citizen by the name of Puzzman (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1654024). A quick search of the name Puzzman on the forums will show that Puzzman gave his account away 2 weeks prior to the theft.

Seems like more information is needed as it has been over a month now since the theft of the gold from the National Bank of Australia. The total amount of gold stolen has been figured out, coming in at an estimate😛
1,214.76 Gold.
On the same day of the theft, Son of Rambo (see first message) portrayed strange actions on Australia's official forums, throwing out 100 members from a political group forum. We think that the gold theft may have been part of a destructive spiral to leave the game.
As told to me by xxxxxx(removed admin name), Puzzman accessed the account when the gold was stolen. Puzzman did not have access to the account, and had quit the game and given up his password on the Australian forums 2 weeks before the theft. Again, we presume Son of Rambo picked up the account and used it to access the National Bank of Australia.
Lastly, it is predicted Son of Rambo either has the funds on his personal account, or hidden in this company http://www.erepublik.com/en/company/taa-airlines-200276 . This again can not be confirmed and the money could be hidden else where.
Thanks and I hope we get this sorted out, many Australians are disgruntled about the time taken to get an answer about this case.

Thank you for your message!
We have finished the investigation and we have decided that we will not intervene in your case.
This decision has been taken as a result of the fact that
the chain of events that lead to the loss of access to the organization was a result of not keeping your password private.
We remind you the following excerpt from the eRepublik Terms of Service:
"To keep your password safe, please do not disclose it to any other person. You are the sole responsible for the activities of all persons who use your password to gain access to your account. To ensure more the safety of your password, you must keep your computer free of viruses and other malicious code including Trojans. To protect your data confidentiality (user name, email, password), you may not share those with or transfer them to any third parties. You must notify us immediately, by sending an e-mail to the address mentioned in the contact section of the present Terms of Use, of any unauthorized use of them or any other breach of security regarding our website that comes to your attention."

The eRepublik Team
So there you have it, the gold will not be returned. I have spoken with admin today to further explain their answer:
admin: The name of the one who took the money is confidential because transactions are confidential (through the Monetary Market).
patti11: "To protect your data confidentiality (user name, email, password), you may not share those with or transfer them to any third parties. You must notify us immediately, by sending an e-mail to the address mentioned in the contact section of the present Terms of Use, of any unauthorized use of them or any other breach of security regarding our website that comes to your attention" Is it safe to assume then that whoever accessed it was in the list I gave you and thus not a third party? what do you mean by third party?
admin: Third party = anyone who do you not wish to know the password.
patti11: ok, so in the message i gave you the names of 4 people who had access to the account, does that mean it was one of them who took the money as it was not third party?
admin: The information you are asking is confidential.
This article is in noway criticising the admins decision, but rather explaining to the Australian population the status of the gold. As you can see, I do believe Son of Rambo stole the gold, and believe my evidence is substantial, but I would be the first to admit that I am wrong on the matter if more information surfaces.
Thanks for reading,

Thank you for this Patti. 😃
Thanks Patti
But its not good enough, admins should stop bloody hiding everything and come out and interact with citizens, like eJahan admins.
Too bad. I hoped it would be solved after all.
Thanks for your care to investigate the case anyway. Thanks to the Admins for not helping. They have their reasons, I admit...
Well if Rambo really went insane and took the money I can see their point. Kind of a Madoff incident. Too bad they couldn't confirm it for the record.
that sucks...
my condolences to eAustralia. It sucks to have destructive elements amongst your trusted friends in RL or eWorld.
Carr De Vaux,
eMalaysian congressman.
🙁
Holy Fluffer, welcome to eRepublik Mr. PM, hardly ever see an article from ya. Nice work though. Shame to see fingers pointing at SoR, since he was essentially my guide here in Aussieland, but it is how it is I suppose.
Ditto Corey. I still have my own beliefs as to what occurred, but I guess we'll never know for sure unless SoR returns.
That Son of a b*tch.
As sad as it is that one of our own could do this, I believe Patti's conclusion is the most likely.
sigh, figured that was the most likely but still didnt want it to be the outcome
😕
i still dont believe it
So glad we can finally put this issue to rest. Not the outcome we wanted, but hell, at least we have an idea of what actually happened.
What steps are we taking to see that it never happens again? Seems 1000g could have bought WA back peacefully?
Just in case it was SoR, has the password to the organization been changed for it doesn't randomly happen again?
I suggest a petition to the admins, for the information to be known.
If they do not meet the demands, we start a protest campaign in eAustralia stating that we encourage our citizens NOT to buy Gold with their RL money.
Why?
Because if they are not willing to help return STOLEN Gold, how can anyone player that spend RL money know they gold they have PURCHASED will be safe?
The admins response seems to me to indicate that, strictly speaking, the money wasn't stolen, since the person responsible had not hacked the password, they'd been given it, under the assumption that they were a responsible and stable person.
Unfortunately, since the responsible person hasn't actually cheated (under the game's terms and conditions), admin cannot intervene. It's a bummer, but there it is. I'm not in favour of any organised campaign to get people to boycott eRepublik's gold purchasing facility, since it could be perceived as blackmail, and could land us in some hot water.
It's disappointing that Admin could not be more helpful but I suppose the game rules contrain them.
I'd love to be able to question Son of Rambo, but he hasn't been in game for some time and it looks like he's quit. I've kicked him out of ACUK since he hasn't responded to roll calls.
Nice find patti11 and hopefully this matter can slowly go to rest.. Although the above outcome is likely, maybe Son of Rambo can some back and explain? Anyway, some responses to comment and questions.
"Seems 1000g could have bought WA back peacefully? "
1000g can not buy back Western Australia. It will take a couple of thousands (~6000-7000Gold at least) to buy back the whole of Western Australia.
"Just in case it was SoR, has the password to the organization been changed for it doesn't randomly happen again?"
Yes. It has been changed. It is changed at the end of every Prime Ministerial Term.
thanks for keeping us eAussies informed patti
i find it VERY hard to believe SoR would do this, I have my reasons for trusting SoR implicitly
I trust him too Lews but the fact is I don't believe that an 100 member purge and the gold stolen on the same day can be a coincidence
Admins = phallus
@Binda - or rather admin has put in game rules to limit their liabilities in situations like these.
Ranger Bob
scotywest
Son of Rambo
TheBlackAdder
Heck man, it could be any one of them! I, for one, trust none of the obove..I don't trust Son of Rambo because I've never seen him speak anywhere ever.
I know, it seems to point to Son of Rambo.
But that doesn't stop me from not trusting anyone. For all I know the information on this article is all false. 😛
Well, the use of orgs to store government money is essentially working around their intention of having a national treasury, so I guess they're not really obliged to help us run them.
Thanks for sticking with this, Patti. SoR was the first person to reach out to me when I came to eAus as well so I'm very disappointed to think about him doing something so egregious. I hope admin will monitor his actions should he return in future.
thats bull s#@! why cant they pull some money out of there arses and give it to us!!
You can definitely trust Scoty.
