I feel guilty. I live in Montreal,Quebec,Canada.
The first step to build the nuke have been done at the Montreal University. (Basis and the theories only)
The first gramms of plutonium have been made here. (Nagasaki was the 1st plutonium bomb)
The mass production of enrichied uranium and plutonium have been made in the USA. The pratical researh have been made at Los Alamos.
Some plutonium gramms of this bomb have been made in my city so I feel guilty.
But Canada is the only one country who get the nuclear bomb and freely abandon it. (at the begining of the 80s)
I hope nuclear weapon will never be use again to kill civilian and wipe-out city...
Rest in peace for all japanese who have died by the most evil weapon builded by humanity .
Nothing to feel guilty for. The great clash of civilizations and ideas continues to this day. Hopefully there will never be a need for nuclear weapons, but humanity simply uses other less obvious methods to control people and direct their behavior: mass education, globalization, etc. have all contributed to destruction of the old societal orders as effectively as any atomic weapon and it could be argued that the benefits accrue to an increasingly elite few while causing great disruption in individuals quality of living.
One might even argue that the creation of the most destructive weapons ever has led to an unprecedented area of peace and prosperity.
Like most military-oriented scientific programs, the applications have gone far beyond the original "blow things up" goals. Nuclear energy will probably be responsible for powering the next stage of human expansion into space so we can be free of the bonds of petty earthbound rivalries that cause wars. Free to go into space and start rivalries and wars there. 🙂
Canada participated (and still basically does) in nuclear weapon sharing with the United States:

South Africa is the only country that developed its own nuclear weapons and then gave them up, mainly because they made SA more of a target, given its remote geographical location.
May the victims of the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombs rest in peace.
I never met my grandfather's brother because of that bomb.
But I certainly can't blame America. They did what they had to do to end the war. They did their duty and as Kita said, such death and destruction may be responsible for the fact that there has been no world war three.
Still, a day of silence for the terrible tragedy.

It was the greatest war ever fought!!!! A time where nationalism reigned supreme and people LOVED their country.
Unfortunatly, Total War is a bitch 😞

my grandfather worked on the Manhattan project briefly before leaving to pursue peacetime benefits of nuclear technology
it is a lessen of the unfair burdens all citizens must bear for their governments actions
empathy may be the only redeemable human quality after all

There is no great war... only great people in them
Don't forget Hiroshima as well!
Oh an😛
Some people were bombed in Hiroshima, went to Nagasaki and were bombed agina.
🙁
Oh and I know someone from Nagasaki 😃
this year the day was quite emotive, even hot as hell people stopped even on the street at 11:02 for the silent minute of pray and the special program on the local news were quite emotive. We had a lot of japanese tourists in the medical school also, most of them praying on the old entrance to the school when leaving.

I saw on the news that there was actually a guy that was bombed twice upon, and lived. O_o...;;
I read about that guy, too. He was on his way to Nagasaki a few days after surviving the Hiroshima bombing. Some people are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If I remember correctly, there were also some allied prisoners of war in Japan who survived the bombings. I wonder if they were ever treated as 被爆者 (HIBAKUSHA or atomic bomb victims with special consideration & benefits from the Japanese government) or if the allied governments helped them out.
I heard about him too. Talk about karma.
I always wondered if Hiroshima was really necessary?
The way I think about it, Japan was ready to buckle down and sacrifice every last woman and child at that point before the nuclear bombs were used.
Many more Japanese civilians and American soldiers might have been killed if we had not used them.
I am by no means support the use of nuclear weapons. I just wanted to state that because of that, there are some peoples grandfathers and grandparents that are still here today. One of them including my own.
