My West Virginia Congress Run

Day 573, 16:07 Published in USA USA by Jaxon Leith

Today, I am announcing my candidacy for the congressional seat in West Virginia!

I’ve decided to run for a number of reasons, but mostly so that I can help bring about some real change in this second life we have. One of the biggest points on my agenda is communication. New members have a hard time integrating, partly because this is a mechanism the game’s social structure uses to weed out inactives, but also partly because experienced players are so into the game and its bureaucracy that they have no time left for continued networking. And for some players, that’s required. But for members of Congress, I think there is a certain responsibility in listening to and educating constituents that is often lost here and in real life. That is one of my main commitments as your congressman—to listen and educate to the best of my ability. I have been very involved with the creation of the Conservative Party mailing list and several other mechanisms our party is now using to get people more involved. Most of all, though, my PM box is always open and I’m always open to messages on IRC.

As for policymaking, I follow a pragmatic guide in deciding what is best. I’m not a strong idealist and am always willing to at least listen to an argument. This has been handy especially during my tenure as the US Ambassador to Canada. During my tenure, I have gotten to know many of the ministers and citizens of Canada, perhaps our greatest and most loyal ally, and have helped to successfully maintain our alliance in the face of economic difficulties up north. At least in one instance, that required me to realize that, though we believe in free trade, Canada’s ministers have had a hard time justifying it considering the state of their economy. So we gave in on that point, because as much as we’d like to dictate policy, sometimes it’s better to work around an obstacle than through it. My foreign policy work has taught me this and I expect to bring the same approach to Congress, especially as we work towards a new and more streamlined alliance framework.

Lastly, I’d like to address economic policy. I find the best system to be low taxes and less government spending. Business owners are the ones who pay our wages and provide everything from food to weapons, and I have the highest respect for that. As such, my votes will always be in favor of lessening the burden on American entrepreneurs and taxpayers. When you keep more of your wages and profits, we all win.

I’d also like to add that I am a soldier in the National Guard and the US Air Force, and am strongly in favor of supporting all our troops here and abroad.

If you have any questions for me, please comment or send me a message. Friend requests are always welcome! If you like what you hear, remember to get out on June 25th and vote for me, Jaxon Leith!
