My Thoughts on Asgard
Churchill93
What is the rush?
With eCanada currently being entirely occupied by eSpain, is our most pressing priority to officially join Asgard? I would think not.
I cannot understand why anybody would want to be so gung ho to sign eCanada onto this alliance. We've been a trial member for 2 months, and in that time not only have we been occupied, but both eSweden and eFinland were also occupied.
To be fair, I should point out that it was poor leadership that got us into the mess of being occupied by eSpain, not Asgard. But what exactly has Asgard done to help us? They haven't been able to because they've had their own issues.
Do we really want to rush into an Alliance of the Occupied?
(NOTE: Yes, I realize that both Finland and Sweden have regained their territories. It still does not take away from the fact that they both were both occupied for a period of time.)
It is much more important to focus our efforts and attention on liberating our territory, getting a new Congress and then let's discuss Alliances.
We can complain about the largest countries all being allied, but what does that accomplish? Nothing. Perhaps we should discuss the idea of looking at those alliances. But none of that can be done until we have regained our territory - and a legitimate question to ask is: how much can Asgard do to help us with that?
It's time for eCanada to do what's best for eCanada for a change.
Just my two cents.

We aren't part of Asgard because two other nations, with very similar damage output to us, will somehow be able to protect us from TWO. We joined because then we have a couple other countries to work with and coordinate damage with. And also the Asgard nations are honourable countries that won't suddenly sell us out like the US once did.
How do know the eUS wouldn't have turned on us if Rylde hadn't leaked their negotiations?
Although this issue bothers me and it is core to the credibility issue the nation faces, the fact remains it is water under the bridge and playing "what if" doesn't help or add value here. We have to move on and focus on electing leaders who act with integrity and won't repeat mistakes.
Thanks for reading. Shouldn't the ability to have some protection play a part in the Alliance that we choose? It's all well and good to work with friendly countries - but we've all been wiped out recently.
Funky has a good point re: the US.
It is conceivable that Asgard will broker relationships with EDEN or another alliance, much like the Brolliance, and act as a partner. Asgard alone affords minimal defensive protection, but it is a potential forum for middle-sized countries with credibility.
well unless we have a time machine it doesnt really matter what would of happened if Rylde didnt leak info
From what I understand the US and eCanada have reached out to eachother and if what I read is true the US may be interested in signing a MPP in the future
Whats your suggestion and arguement to back it up, you say its time to do whats best for eCanada...what is it?
Asgard offers us a chance to play a part in something new and help build it from the ground up, it also allows us to keep and make MPP's with other friendly nations.
Thanks for reading. I agree we can't go back in time - but we can move forward. It certainly is in our interest to try and encourage strong cooperation with the eUS.
As for what I think is best for eCanada - I believe that is focusing entirely on liberating our country and getting a Congress. Let's have a debate as a country on an Alliance when we get to that point.
When we get to that point, I do think we need to strongly consider choosing an alliance that is able to provide us with some protection and support. We aren't a superpower (and likely won't be for awhile). While I think very highly of both Sweden and Finland, I'm not sure they can provide us with any protection.
Good article! Very risque, considering how many people are all "Hail Asgard" these days 🙂
Thanks for reading! I call it like I see it... I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me - but I think it's an important debate to have.
There will always be those that disagree, oh well lol...I am officially your first subscriber 🙂
Thanks Allegra Avionte! Much appreciated!
"It's time for eCanada to do what's best for eCanada for a change."
The problem is defining what is best for eCanada. Once you define it, is it even possible to attain given the limitations of the game and eCan's population.
If we abandon Asgard now, we lose face again. We will have spurned eUS, EDEN and Asgard. We will be close to where eUK was when it flip-flopped its way to international ridicule.
Asgard is the hairshirt the eCan must wear. Asgard has potential, eCan would be best served being a good ally and trying to make it work. If it fails IN SPITE of our best efforts, we will be able to take solace in our performance as a good ally and explore the remaining options.
What's a hairshirt?
It is uncomfortable clothing that one wears as an act of repentance or atonement. Asgard membership is uncomfortable in the sense that it affords little in-game protection or military might or in-game influence at all, however, eCan has trodden pretty far down the Asgard road and has burned bridges in the past thus limiting its options; eCan must see this through or risk being branded a Fairweather Johnson with no loyalty and only interested in options where we take more than we give.
I can't respond properly without getting into some history and party rhetoric. All I can say is that risk you speak of has been proven irrelevant by the same people cornering me into Asgard.
Thanks for reading Addy.
I'm not necessarily arguing for abandoning Asgard. I think we need to focus on liberating our country before making a decision.
While I personally have some concerns with joining Asgard - protection being one of them. I think this is an important debate that we need to have as a country once we are no longer occupied.
If a decision is made to change direction at that point, we will be able to justify it as a change in leadership.
We have nothing to protect at the moment, I think joining asgard allows us to potentially (communication pending) become a bigger thorn in the sides of our enemies. Other than that our trial membership seems to be a hint of the coming assistance from our allies.
I think this is a good point. I am all for joining an alliance and being part of the team. And when we are on the team, we will do our part. But I agree, Asgard has done nothing to help us in our current situation, and actions speak louder than words on what their capabilities are.
Hi I'm new but from what I've read Asgard seems like a cool place! :3
I don't know a lot about the game, but I like the idea of being in a small alliance and mattering.
I keep seeing the occasional comment that Asgard has done nothing for us and I suppose, militarily speaking, they haven't. There is a reason though. Firstly, the two previous CP's maintained little to no direct communication with the alliance. Rylde, for his own reasons and Rolo because, I guess, he was really in a caretaker role after the Colonel Sanders shambles.
Since taking office I have been working strongly on improving this. Asgard did offer more support, stating that they felt Canada had been neglected. I advised them that I wanted to wait and get things right. I wanted to wait until the time was right and we could give ourselves the best shot. That time is approaching and when it comes we will have the full support of Asgard.
I apologise for the lack of open information coming from me but we can't publicise a plan without giving it away to the enemy. I stated in the run up to the election that the road ahead would be long and hard. Nothing has changed, but believe me when I say, we are be putting 100% into it.
Sub #4 btw 🙂
Keep it up
The points you bring up are very valid, I encourage everyone to think hard about whether we really want this alliance
