Well...I understand the need to curb inflation , but these proposals come dangerously close to undermining a lot of peoples civil rights . Who gave the government the right to issue boycotts ? Most aussies will willingly comply for the good of the nation , but when it comes to depriving anybody of their civil rights , I will fight to the last .

@bil: hopefully GM's do comply for the good of the nation and I sincerely hope to not issue a single boycott during my term as MoI. However, I will do what needs to be done to protect citizens and boycotts will only be handed out to the worst of the worst GM's. I hope you understand where I am coming from with this and with freedom comes great responsibility to do the right thing.

Gold is created out of thin air, whenever someone achieves a certain accomplishment or purchases gold with RL money. Therefore, inflation will always be based on the whims of achievers and real life spenders.

Secondly, New World inflation is calculated based on the rise in prices of all goods sold over a seven day period.

To panic and institute these extreme measures based on a seven day trend is silly. To do so based on an uncontrollable metric is pointless.

The best way to you to "fix" what you see as an ailing economy is to get out the way and stop making laughable empty threats.

The moment a government feels justified in depriving even one citizen of his civil rights , that government has crossed the thin red line . There is no gray area . Either we respect the rights of one and all , or we don't .

@ambrose: on your first point that is true, and as such inflation under 50% is quite normal. Inflation at 100% isn't and the fact that prices of goods doubled in one week which is no undoubtedly can put the blame on too high wages among other things. If you have been paying attention last week inflation was around 80% and the week before that 60-80%.

Simply leaving the market in its current state will end badly, as wages will rise causing prices to rise and devaluing our dollar (which was at 50AUD and now is around 54AUD).

@Bil: Like I said, I hope I don't have to issue a boycott but if one GM is offering wages which can destabilse the economy it is my right as a Minister to protect the citizens of this great country.

and it is not a right of ANY nation to:

i am reworking my wood company to sell at 1AUD, sadly i have had to lower wagers, though i was paying my workers about current market wages.

if there is a market i can upgrade my wood company to Q2 (if i sold all my AUD on MM market) though i would have to get rid of all people below skill level 3 to make it worth while?

i say i dont want out economy to become like Indonesias there dollar is really rare right now, and there wages are soooo high that they can hardly even make profit in there companies and that means the prices of the market get more expensive

@Ambrose - I think you are a clever person, so I respect what you say however we need to see the consequences that will follow a completely free market. We are trying to protect Australian companies that are doing the right thing. We do not want to let the acts of a small number of selfish companies ruin the fun of other genuine company owners.

I agree with the marketeers - the way to reduce prices is to increase competition. If the game artificially restricts competition (which it may coz I'm a noob and don't understand everything yet) then governments need to step in and place restrictions. (In that case forget civil rights coz it's a game and there's already rules restricting them)

But if it's left as a free market, then those products making high profit will naturally encourage new players and so it should even out.

Point 2 - high inflation is in itself not a disaster..

This has all the hallmarks of a political witchhunt. What we're seeing here is politics every much as grubby as Canberra. Why am I not surprised to see him praising companies owned by members of the government's party & the condemnation of a company owned by a opposition party member.

@Xave: it was worded wrongly and for that I apoligise. A boycott will be issued in the most extreme circumstances where wages posted by a GM stuff teh economy up.

@Bil: even with a boycott companies are still free to post whatever they like we are not banning them. We would publish an article saying this company has unrealistica wages and is having a detrimental effect on the market.

Doomed to failure - Governments should keep out of the market, governments serve the people, not the other way round. There are more incentives in place for people and companies to distribute wealth and grow the economy than goverments will ever have.

The government is serving the people, the proletariat, by making sure the upper class do not exploit andbprofiteer. It's not serving the people who want to make ridiculous money out of disempowered workers. Tbh, this is nowhere near enough in terms of action

When did the communists take over the ADSP? This is so close to nationalising industries, it's not funny.

The government would be better placed making sure there is sufficient competition in each industry to ensure prices remain low, rather than setting arbitrary prices.

Why not provide grants for company start-ups, rather than intefering with the internal workings of markets.

I will say that the measures presented, in the form of boycotts, were not presented in the senate and have been enacted by the PM and MoI (in their "official" capacity - Not as ADSP Members).

Like I've said elsewhere, I think it's very important to "educate" GMs on how to properly run their business. But I do think that inflation should be controlled (look at eIndonesia for an example of a "free/unmanaged market"). And as it's already been pointed out, boycotts will only be used in the more extreme circumstances.

I WOULD be against the curbing of GM rights if it wasn't for the fact that their actions affect us all, the minority should not have the right to screw things up for the majority. It's kinda like the credit crunch, or whatever you call it, a small minority in the bankers screwed everything up for everyone - that could have been stopped with more regulations and government control, hopefully any screwing up of the economy will be stopped by these measures.

For those who don't know, Democratic Socialism is 'soft' Communism. Basically it's a pre-Communist stage where a country is deemed to be not ready for the next step but steps are made to make it ready.

The next step is Communism. Here the political & actual terminology gets mixed up. Technically Communism is the decree to make a country into a Socialist society but where the process isn't yet complete.

The final step is Socialism. It's the ultimate goal for all Commies. Here the government has complete & absolute control over all economic affairs & you ain't even able to earn a income to feed your children without permission from the government. The eRepublic equivient should be easy enough to understand.

Quite simply, inflating wages will inflate the price of goods.

There is very, very, very good reason why min. wage is $1, and goods cost very little (ie approx 1-2 x Q = Food cost).

If we had a minimum wage of $10 AUD, and goods costing about 10x what they do now, then foreign companies will flood the market and destroy us. If an importer sells for $2, and we do for $10.... I rest my case.

Cottus, there are other ways to curb inflation without forcing GMs to run their companys according to extreemly restrictive government regulations.

For example a single govenment run company in an industry selling for a fair price does the same job as you over zealous regulations which essentially turn every company into a government company. But this way GMs can still decide their own wages and prices, they just have to remain competitive.

I congratulate you on your "GM course" and GM records (although imo it could be a lot more user friendly and trivia is now redundant) and I see these as positive influences to the economy which help the GM decide what to do, rather than telling him what he can and cant do.

Civil liberties and a free market are of upmost importance, there are plenty of ways to curb inflation without restricting either.

No matter how hard you try to analyse this boycotting, it is very democratic and these "civil liberties" you speak of are still protected.

1. The people of Australia voted DEMOCRATICALY for ADSP to control the majority of the senate, thus allowing us to implement our policies (this being one of them)

2. The senate will DEMOCRATICALY discuss and then vote for whether to boycott the company after refusal to comply with government demands
- thus a public govt. statement is made, outlining the implications such a high wage structure would have on Australias Economy

3. The Australian people (and businesses) DEMOCRATICALLY vote again, with their purchases this time, to actually enforce the boycott.

Ultimately, the government cant enforce a boycott. They have no power to stop a company from running unethically. Only the Australian people can.
How democratic and fair is that! The people decide for THEMSELVES for what they think is right and wrong for the country! The government simply supplies inside information to them so they can make an informed decision.
