Message from Sweden.
Hello my dear friends Americans,
We bring you glad news from Sweden today. As you all know USA declared war upon Mexico last week. But the government failed to inform the other members of ATLANTIS about their plans at least 48 hours before the actual declaration, which is to be considered a violation of the Atlantis Treaty.
Earlier this week, the voting about the matter was ended, and the Atlantis resulting that USA now has to pay the penalty fee of 100 gold to each Atlantis member nation.
The actual voting numbers were 2-5, in favor of not enforcing, but the rules state that a 4/5 majority is needed to disregard the penalty. Therefore, USA is to pay 100 gold to each and every one of the other members.
Sweden was one of those who voted against the reprimand, we won't tell who voted for it.
Neither will our secretaries of Swedish Secrets.
We respect the ruling and will of ATLANTIS, yet we sympathize with USA. We will act upon ATLANTIS’ decision and accept the 100 penalty gold from USA. But at the same time Sweden would very much like to help our valued friend as much as possible, taking in consideration that you lost your treasury for not so long time ago and now is bound to pay several of hundreds gold in the middle of a world war.
Therefore the Swedish government decided to donate 100 gold to the United States of America as a sign of how much we value our relationships. Polar bear hunting pays so much that we actually can afford it. So while we sat here in Sweden, swimming around in pools of liquid gold, and saw our friends under so hard economical pressure, we figured that you need the gold far more than we do. Our treasury is still safe; even though we were afraid that we'd lost part of it when Toothpaste disappeared. Fortunately, he came back and we got the money once again, so we kind of thought: Why not give it away again?
That was everything from us Swedes today. We wish you a nice day and hope that you intend to use the gold responsibly (spank some PEACE GC ass, hard).

Given my role as a congressman (not as Secretary of State), I think Sweden ought to be thanked for their generosity but the gold returned. Exceedingly kind of our Swedish allies, but how can we berate our ATLANTIS buddies for demanding 100 G as a penalty and then accept money from them?

As the Speaker of the House, I think this is a great sign of compassion and respect from a wonderful ally. I can not speak for the entire 51 congresspeople of the USA, but I know I will be pushing for that MPP to continue past the 4 days that's remaining.
It's yet to be seen what the official stance of congress is towards this fine is, but be sure that your generosity will not be forgotten.

actually if you go by that 4/5 rule it didn't pass even though 5/7 sayed yes, simple math 4/5 = 80% 5/7 = 71.4%. unless i'm missing something here?

Wow. That was very nice of Sweden! But hey...this is pretty dumb. I say don't pay it. While I (and probably the rest of the US) appreciates the generosity of Sweden, I still think this is just a stupid ploy to try and bring more money into other governments. This seems to be a movement of greed on ATLANTIS's part, and I don't think we should comply.
At least you have the rule of law in your alliance. In the PEACE alliance members can do to each other whatever they want, even steal regions (Burgenland in our case).
Or, let's at least try to appeal this (If we can.) We shouldn't have to pay. It's a stupid rule that is part of the ATLANTIS agreement which should be removed.
I am sure rest of Atlantis will love Sweden for this article...

I'm glad Sweden has seen what a fail-ward move this was for ATLANTIS to make and is seeking reconciliation, but it doesn't change the fact that the alliance's governing body is busted and full of poor planning, and just voted to put us over a barrel.
The double-standard of applying a fine to some members but not others represents an underlying hostility to US interests: not something we should be looking for in our allies.
Withdraw now, and leave ATLANTIS to their own troubles.

Thank you Sweden. But I'm thinking that if ATLANTIS is not supporting the US, then why are we a part of it? Have they ever helped us?
Plus a 4/5 requirement is ridiculous, the vote was clearly a majority with more than twice as many voting on the side of the US--an overwhelming majority. With that set up, then only one nation could vote against, which puts way too much power in the hands of one country.
I'm all for the eUS leaving ATLANTIS and creating a new organization that will be fair and just, not allowing the greed of one country to pull down the entire world--too much power in the hands of a few.
Sweden is a true ally in my mind.

I am sure the good will and graciousness of Sweeden is noted and appriciated. However, it's becoming more and more appearant to me that ATLANTIS overall is not exactly eager to help. Fire must be fought with fire, and PEACE is doing anything in their power to grow and conquor the world. We must do the same, and fining governments who are trying to distract and weaken PEACE from their main objective seems highly counter intuitive.
Just my two cents.

So we launch a war on eMexico (a PEACE nation) to distract PEACE's efforts away from ATLANTIS (and we did it without requiring ATLANTIS nations to fight alongside us in MPPs) and our reward for lessening the pressure on eRomania (ATLANTIS) is that we get fined?
I can't say this for all ATLANTIS nations, but eSweden is a true ally. eUS as part of this ATLANTIS mess is making less sense for ue, but no matter what our alliance affiliations are in the future, I hope we keep our MPPs with countries like eSweden, not because they are part of ATLANTIS, but because they are good friends who know how to use diplomacy.
