Malta_1990 for Country President

Day 493, 16:06 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by The Unity Party

Dear Friends,

Around a week ago I was talking to good friend, committed politician and all-round eUK legend Malta about politics in the UK. We were talking about why nobody from TUP ever stands for the number one job, even though we've had a few likely candidates over the past two months. “Well, Iain,” said Malta, “it's because we always end up supporting someone else”.

I have been thinking about this ever since, and so has he. We both know there have been some amazing candidates in past months. We've supported some of them, for better or worse. Even if we haven't taken an official position, we've encouraged members to vote for the option we think best for the eUK. But we've not stood a TUP candidate for so long our soapbox is feeling neglected.

So this month we've decided to make a change. Malta told me that he wants to stand. I think he is one off the most outstanding politicians in this country, one of the most committed people you'll ever meet and would bring all people of all backgrounds together to build a better country. This is an announcement of his candidacy, but as you can probably tell from the way it's written, it's more a personal than formal. The manifesto will come in a few days.

So why vote for Malta for President? He's got bags of experience, as a congressman and as a leader of the Unity Party. He's worked in the government as a Minister, and done an exemplary job, despite the workload. He's achieved an awful lot.

But that's only a side-note. When you vote for someone to be a President, it's not all about what they've done, but also about what they intend to do. Jerry has done a fantastic job rebuilding our country, but Malta wants to revitalise it, take it in a whole new direction. The value of a President with vision cannot be overestimated.

It's difficult for us, as a party who haven't stood a candidate in a while, to measure our support. But we know out there, reading this, there are people who want to make a real difference. People for whom clicking two buttons and logging out seems to be getting boring and shallow. People who want more excitement in their eLives. People who will vote for Malta to give them that new dimension, that new level of experience.

There will be those that criticise us, that say we're making hollow promises. We're not. They'll complain that we won't win, that we're too small. We're not. That we're an old party with old ideas. We're not. They'll comment on this article telling us we're these things, because they don't know the value of people power.

We're a old party full of young people, fresh ideas, and we're growing daily. Malta is our candidate, and his appeal is to all citizens: vote for the future. Vote for Malta_1990, United Kingdom President.
