Make It or Break It! Why Italy's Gutsy Move Will Decide the War

Day 1,665, 22:32 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

With the war not looking good for TEDEN, we needed to shake things up and catch our enemies off guard. With Slovenia and Poland pressuring on USA and Serbia fervently holding off repeated invasions, our allies needed an extra push to tip the scale back in our favor. In a previous article, I expressed my need to open a new front to overload Serbia, giving us a chance to finally put down the forces of ONE. While I exclaimed that Bosnia and Herzegovina needed to open up the front, an unexpected country has stepped up to the call in their stea😛 Italy.

Now here comes the confusing part: why should there be any confusion as to why Italy would attack Serbia? After all, Serbia's been holding onto Italy for far too long, and the pasta-lovers want it back. It's perfectly understandable from such a point of view. But the situation in France could interfere in their noble attempt.

As of 21:30 of Day 1,665, Slovenia is attacking Provence Alps Azur, France's sole province in the southeast. If Slovenia pulls out the victory, as they appear to be close to, Slovenia will no longer share a border with France. So that war? Over, done with. Slovenia will be free to attack Italy with all their might, as they certainly will. Could the US make a difference in that pursuit? Perhaps, but remember this: Poland is close to gaining a border with the Yanks again, and you know what that means. The US will be too cautious to let their guard down and risk annihilation in the north. As a result, Italy will most likely be defenseless against a Slovenian attack.

So what happens if they are in fact attacked? I see three possible results. The first is that they are overwhelmed by the two-front war, and get quickly wiped. This will give Slovenia one less country to deal with, and gives Serbia a little more leeway with their battles. Without Italy harassing them, Slovenia could quickly attack the US and give Poland some backup, eventually pushing the Americans out of Europe. This would be the end of the war, a resounding defeat.

What if France survives Slovenia's attacks and pushes back? Italy will be free to attack Serbia and at the very least annoy the living hell out of them. Serbia, faced with 2 countries and 3 revolts at the same time, will be forced to either drag in Poland's army for backup, thus allowing France to reclaim Paris and co., or give up Italy in order to focus on protecting themselves.

The third possibility is the most intriguing; what if Slovenia beats France, but Italy is able to manage two fronts at once with success? If such a feat occurs, Italy could very well reclaim ALL of Italy, and march into Slovenian homelands. Of course they would require some effort from outside forces, such as the Brazilian army, which is busy fighting just about everyone, and the Argentinian forces, which are taking way too long to beat Chile and New Zealand, but it is possible. If such a perfect storm brews, Italy could become the unlikely hero. Who'd have thunk that?
