Trito, actually the rental deal does affect our security. To rent the two regions to the eUSA, we had to let them destroy a significant portion of our defensive shield. That shield defended us and had an economic value. We are not receiving sufficient funds from the eUSA to be equal to that value. The Dail's majority decision to upgrade training grounds for some citizens means that the defense of the shield is not being replaced in any way. Upgrading a few TG for some citizens will not make us strong enough to defend against any significant opponents.

We've given up a security item and not replaced it with any significant security. That affects our defenses and weakens our ecountry.

I was under the impression that part of the 130,000cc was to cover the cost of the lost shield.

In the modern game I think the shields value is debatable... no doubt is a great asset - acting a delay and costing the enemy X amount to get through. At the end of the day though we still need to be able to RW and defend regions via players damage - I feel that we're still well equipped defensively and better off now because of the non-aggression pact aspect which means that we likely wont have to test our defences anyway.

That's my educated opinion on the matter - having dealt a lot with shields in September and October when eLife sort of revolved around them.

Ian, a small portion was intended to cover the value of the shield. The problem is, there is no way this rental is going to last long enough for it to add up to an equal amount. Also, the funds aren't being used to replace defense with defense.

If there wasn't a shield involved, I'd very likely be happy about this deal. It's the fact we're giving up something without receiving fair compensation for it. Doesn't help that I think we're not doing well with the money, either.

As you know this issue of shield valuation was one of my main concerns when we were in the voting phase for this deal.

I'm still not sure how the value of the shield is being measured? Is there a way to figure out how much the shield we lost is worth objectively - or is it a matter of considering the strategic value of that shield in various situations of different likelihoods?

My gut feeling is that we've overall improved our situation with this deal - using diplomatic means to decrease a threat of wipe, and sacrificing our shield - which in reality is not going to stop us from being wiped if it were to come to that, at best it would buy us some time.

Ian, we're only getting 90k, IEP/month, btw. If I remember correctly from the Dail discussions, it was estimated a year to replace the economic value of the shield. Which isn't likely to happen.

130,000cc is what it says in Bhanes article if I remember correctly. 90,000cc being the amount of payment, and the other 40,000cc being compensation for related costs.

Rent is 70k per month with 20k for the rebate, for a tootle payment of 90k.
The first payment was 100k rent + 30k rebate, because it covered a nearly month and a half.

The regions of Cork, and Wexford were passed to the eUS just past the halfway point in December. This means the rent for December is prorated to be slightly less than half the 90k rental payment (including tax rebate). We approximated the December rent to be 40k cc. When this is added to the 90k for January, the first rental payment was 130k cc, which has been sent to our banker, Appleman.

First payment was 130k because it was more than a full month. We are being paid 50k IEP/month for the iron region, and 20k IEP/month for each region in the rental. 20k IEP/month of that is being paid into government orgs to offset the tax loss from those regions, leaving 70k IEP for use as the Dail decides. It has been stated that the CP does have the authority to decide the use of those funds, and that will be applied if he does not feel there is a sufficient consensus among the Dail on fund usage.

Not that it's any of Vik's business, Trito... but last month's entire dail saw all the votes with names blurred out. They were all satisfied the referendum results were legitimate. Some even had a bit of fun trying to find their replies in the large collage of screencaps.

Governments do questionable things sometimes, every government does. When our gov. provided free TG's for young citizens, you complained and said that older citizens weren't helped. Bhane CAN be the sole counter of votes. He's the president, he makes the decision. If the congressmen didn't agree with his opinion, they could've impeached him. We can elect somebody else...

Your blatant lack of game mechs is quite amusing.

1st A referendum is an outside game thing, not supported or supervised by game mechs, mods, what so ever. So everyone who runs a referendum, does it voluntarily.
2nd A CP is the only one in the game who has a right to receive all orgs with passwords. So he can take and go, like Chew did recently in the eUK and many other CPs before him. No justification needed. CP is the boss, except an impeachement, there is nothing you can do about it.
3rd People were and are still against the outcome of this referendum but they respect the democratic result, because they trust Bhane . It's only you two who are permanently whining instead of doing anything.
