{ note: this is a party decision; not a government or coalition decision, it will not interfere with standing policies and/or agreements made with other parties }

As of today, the Libertarian Party of the United Netherlands has decided, in a democratic election, to fully recognise the independence of the new eBelgian state, and renounce all support for any territorial claim inside that state's borders. The Libertarian Party also supports a move towards full normalisation and rationalisation of our foreign affairs with the state of eBelgium. This article hopes to explain the logic behind the Libertarian Party's decision.

The UNL's previous claim to the legitimate sovereignty of the Belgian regions was based on the presence of a significant pro-union Belgian faction, a faction that no longer appears represent the dominant opinion. This in effect, renders the UNL's claim on any territory within Belgium illegitimate, and violates article two of the party policies -

2. Liberty at home. All peoples have the right to self-determination, and the Libertarian Party is committed to defending that right.

But this interpretation is a double-edged sword. Some sections of the Belgian press seem to believe that the Belgian state has a right to influence policy in the UNL and interfere with our democracy. The Libertarian Party finds this an unacceptable comprimise of the rights and liberties of the UNL's citizens. The United Netherlands must reserve the right to hold whatever democratic votes and discussions it sees fit at any time, without interference from any foreign states.

The Libertarian Party of the United Netherlands supports full normalisation and rationalisation of the UNL's relationship with Belgium. All current aid being provided by the UNL to Belgium should cease, all current assumptions of foreign policy should be abandoned, and the nature of our relationship with Belgium should be judged solely on its benefits to the United Netherlands. No changes whatsoever should be made to the United Netherlands state based on foreign statements, except when they benefit the UNL. Criticisms of our democratic processes, which the Libertarian Party cannot endorse in any way, should certainly not be tolerated any further. From today, the Libertarian Party will work towards the recognition and realisation of this policy.
