Hello everyone!

This is my first international article and I wanted it to be worth publishing by proposing an interesting offer..

I believe that Newspaper module is the least developed module in eRep. Every citizen who reaches level 8 and has spare 2 gold pieces can become a journalist. Of course freedom of speech and expressing ideas are presented to the citizens by giving them the opportunity to own a newspaper. But we are all aware that some people use their newspapers for evil, malicious or just useless purposes. Opening articles about useless stuff, spamming, trolling, selling commodities, bringing RL issues to eRep, opening newspapers just to gain a Media Mogul Medal are among dozens of other things that are done by just owning a newspaper. Im sure this situation irritates many citizens like me. At this point I came up with some ideas that can make Journalism a more amusing, competitive and truly beneficial feature of eRepublik and I would like to share these ideas with you.

First of all, the amount of gold paid for owning a newspaper should at least be the same amount as owning an organisation account which is 5 golds, so that citizens who really wish to make journalism will dare to pay for it.

The number of articles that one newspaper can publish should be limited. (Such as up to 2 articles per day) After exceeding this limit every newspaper owner will have to pay for each article they publish with increasing amounts of gold. i.e. for the 3rd article: 1 gold, 4th article: 3 gold and 5th article: 5 gold…

To prevent bigger newspapers from taking advantage of this new system, and to prevent them from making excessive propaganda, a publishing fee should be charged from newspapers according to the number of their subscribes. This will also prevent people from becoming fake media moguls. For example, a newspaper with 100 subscribers will pay 0,2 Gold for each article published. For 200 subscribers it will be 0,3 gold, 300 subscribers 0,4 gold, 500 subscribers 0,5 gold.. See chart below.

0-100 subscribes 0 gold
100-200 subscribers 0,2 gold
200-300 subscribers 0,3 gold
300-500 subscribers 0,4 gold
500-1000 subscribers 0,5 gold
1000-2000 subscribers 1 gold
2000+ subscribers 2 gold

Journalists can only see the number of votes given to their article by the people who liked it. It is the number of these votes which promotes the article to “Top Rated” category. Right at this point I have an idea that will encourage journalist to publish better quality articles and to develop an auto-control mechanism. An addition of “Deny” button just below the “Vote” button will allow the readers to vote accordingly if they do not enjoy the article. Addition of this “Deny” button will also allow the journalist to see what percent of their readers didnt enjoy the article, and encourage them to writing better articles. That will be the sole feature of “deny” button and it will not be effective in promoting articles into the “Top Rated“ category.

The offers that I have made so far can make some jurnalists mad, since opening a newspaper, paying for every extra article and for every article they publish will cost gold! However, to promote high quality journalism there should be a way to get the golds back that the journalist spends. When the article gets a pre-defined amount of votes, the publishing fee paid for that article will be returned to the journalist. Moreover, articles with extensive success can also be awarded with extra golds too!

A lot of other features can be added to Newspaper module along with the ones I mentioned. The results of these features will be pleasant for the journalist who really make efforts in creating high quality and unique articles, making journalism more competitive and amusing whereas it will result in decline of number of newspapers whose aims are trolling, spamming and wasting peoples time.
