Legio Patria Nostra - Foreign Legion - Where the Sun Shines

Today Arab Foreign Legion got its brothers in arms;
today a new military unit - Macedonian Foreign Legion - has been founded! o7

New Military Unit - Macedonian Foreign Legion

Yesterday, Arab Foreign Legion - LEA also got its new MU avatar design:

New Military Unit Avatar of Légion étrangère arabe - LEA

LEA initials have been added to the shield, foreign legion hand grenade symbol was separated from the lioness head symbol of LEA and green and white Arab League round flag icon symbols have been added as lioness' eyes.

Today it is still 180 years after the French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) was founded in 1831, and it is 6 months from establishing Légion étrangère arabe - LEA Military Unit in eRepublik.

We started with 3 members in LEA MU and today we have 3 regiments. We had a Q2 Wep company when it started, and today, 6 months later, we have 4 Weapons companies, including a Q5 Wep and a Q4 Wep company. This shows what can be accomplished by working hard, fighting hard and being modest. This is the path we choose to continue today and in the future.

Therefore, we have founded Macedonian Foreign Legion - MFL in eRepublic of Macedonia in order to offer to the players and citizens of eMacedonia the path of working and fighting hard together, while cherishing Foreign Legion traditions and helping the others. It is symbolic that Macedonian Foreign Legion also had three members when founded, just like LEA had on the day of its foundation.

You would like to join Foreign Legion, but there is no Foreign Legion in your country? You are interested in becoming a Commander of Foreign Legion in your country? Contact us. Let us know if you are interested and we'll do our best to make it happen.

Macedonian Foreign Legion Insignia

French Foreign Legion emblem

Macedonian Foreign Legion emblem is based on French Foreign Legion emblem, which represents a stylized old style of hand grenade, with a rising flame.

In addition, Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) has an ancient symbol of Macedonian rising sun in the background.

Macedonian Foreign Legion Objectives

#1 First objective of Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) is to fight for freedom, defending and liberating eMacedonia when ever needed.
#2 Second objective is to help other, usually smaller countries when attacked in their core regions or when liberating in RWs in coordination with Légion étrangère arabe (LEA) Military Unit.

Macedonian Foreign Legion Structure and Organization

Macedonian Foreign Legion is the 2nd MU branch of eRepublik Foreign Legion Forces. Légion étrangère arabe (LEA) is the 1st MU branch of eRepublik Foreign Legion Forces.

Openness

Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) is open to all nationals.

Communication

Official languages are English, French, Macedonian, Croatian and Serbian. Language of commands is English. Communication is conducted via MU feeds, via ingame messages and IRC channel #LEA.

Logistics

Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) is a self-sustainable military unit. This means that its logistics will be based on spending not more than it earns. Its members can freely chose where to work and don't have to work for low salaries, quite the contrary. MFL will be exactly that kind of Military Unit. Soldiers will be responsible to buy their weapons from their salary, and will have best prices of food and weapons on the market, and a bit better than that.

Parallels between French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) and Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL)

There are many parallels and contact points between French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) and Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL).

During World War I the French Foreign Legion was also in the Dardanelles and Macedonian front, and was highly decorated for its efforts. Since 1999 French Foreign Legion troops are present as part of KFOR in Kosovo and Macedonia.

Because of its slower pace, the Foreign Legion is always the last unit marching in any parade (Parade in Rome, June 2007)

International Character

Both French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) and Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) are open to all nationals and do not discriminate people based on their country of origin, race nor religion. Only criteria for acceptance are capabilities of its candidates.

Founded in North Africa

It is interesting to note that the RL French Foreign Legion, Arab Foreign Legion (LEA) and Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) have all been founded in North Africa. Algeria was designated as the French Foreign Legion's home. Légion étrangère arabe - LEA has been founded in Western Desert, Egypt. Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) has been founded in Upper Egypt, in eMacedonia (currently).

Headquarters in Western Macedonia

However, Macedonian Foreign Legion HQ is set to Western Macedonia, Macedonia. Légion étrangère arabe - LEA has its HQ in Western Desert, Egypt.

Foreign Legion Traditions

As the Legion is composed of soldiers of different nationalities and backgrounds, it needed to develop an intense Esprit de Corps which is carried out by the development of camaraderie, specific traditions, the high sense of loyalty of its légionnaires, the quality of their training and the pride of being a soldier of an élite unit.

Legions Code of Honour

Every Legionnaire must know by heart the Legionnaire's Code of Honour. (Here it is adapted for Macedonian Foreign Legion (MFL) and eRepublik use). The Legionnaires spend many hours learning it, reciting it, and then getting the vocal synchronisation together:

English

Art. 1 - Légionnaire, you are a volunteer serving Macedonia with honour and fidelity.
Art. 2 - Each legionnaire is your brother in arms whatever his nationality, his race or his religion might be. You show him the same close solidarity that links the members of the same family.
Art. 3 - Respectful of traditions, devoted to your leaders, discipline and comradeship are your strengths, courage and loyalty your virtues.
Art. 4 - Proud of your status as Legionnaire, you display this in your always impeccable avatar, your always dignified but modest behaviour, and your clean living quarters.
Art. 5 - An elite soldier, you train rigorously, you maintain your weapons as your most precious possession, and you take constant care of your physical form.
Art. 6 - The mission is sacred, you carry it out until the end and, if necessary in the field, at the risk of your life.
Art. 7 - In combat, you act without passion and without hate, you respect defeated enemies, and you never abandon your dead, your wounded, or your arms.

Mottoes

Legio Patria Nostra

Legio Patria Nostra (The Legion is our Fatherland) is the motto of the French Foreign Legion. The adoption of the Legion as a new fatherland does not imply the repudiation by the légionnaire of his first nationality. The French Foreign Legion respects the original fatherland of the légionnaires who are totally free to preserve their nationalities. The Legion even asks the agreement of any légionnaire who could be sent in a military operation where his country of origin would be committed.

The same motto and the same rules as described above apply for Macedonian Foreign Legion.

Honneur et Fidélité

Unlike any other French unit, the motto of the Legion's regimental flags is not Honneur et Patrie (Honour and Fatherland) but Honneur et Fidélité (Honour and Fidelity).

More on French Foreign Legion, its members, military operations, history, and facts you can read on Wikipedia::French Foreign Legion.

Sun in Heraldry

In heraldry the sun is seen occasionally. When represented as giving light, it is blazoned a sun radiant; when depicted with a human face, it is a sun in splendor, or a sun in his splendor. Louis XIV used it as his cognizance.

Louis XIV, the sun king.

Jean de la Hay bore "Argent, a sun in his splendor gules." Ralph de la Hay differenced this coat by bearing only a ray of the sun. John de Fontibus, Bishop of Ely, bore the sun, moon and seven stars.

Today, sun can be found on the flags of several countries:

Sun on the flags of Republic of Macedonia, Argentina, Japan, Philippines, Republic of China (Taiwan), Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uruguay, Malawi, Malawi (new flag since 2010), Kiribati, Namibia, Antigua & Barbuda, Niger, Tunisia, Rwanda, Mongolia and Nepal.

Sol Invictus - the Sun God

Sun was also a symbol of the Roman deity Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun).
