Thank you for joining me today as I declare my candidacy for eCanada Congress.

I am running because I have seen first hand what the current leadership of our government has done to our country and its citizens. I am entering this race to get our government working for citizens of the Northwest Territories and all eCanadians.

The current leadership has forgotten the purpose of government; it is to be of the people, for the people. Their goal, instead, is maintaining the status qua, pure and simple. I feel it is time for a changing of the old guard, are in the very least, it is time for some of the more mature players to take their places in more authoritative and leadership type roles.

I will be a part of the solution.

I believe there is another way.

And as citizens of the Northwest Territories, we know we have a voice far larger than our populous would lead you to believe.

I am running for Congress to help change the direction of our country--so citizens of the Northwest Territories, and eCanada can work to fulfil their dreams, without feeling like they are led by a parliament that is out of touch, out of ideas, and after the next election...out of power.

I will bring to the eCanada Congress what I learned in life: that government can work effectively when people seek common ground, not just controversy; when people work to achieve a common good, not partisan interests; and when people believe that it is an honour to serve; not a pathway to personal privilege.

I am going to paraphrase a memorable phrase that was said by a man who also sought out ideals similar to my own. That’s the change we can offer in 2009 – not change as a slogan, but change we can believe in. These are the words of Barack Obama, and I think he was on to something, something good.

It would my honour to serve the people of the Northwest Territories, and the rest of eCanada.

Thank you.
