Land Renting Treaty up in Smoke

Day 1,147, 14:08 Published in South Africa South Africa by Venetia Carlton

There are great concerns of a diplomatic meltdown between South Africa and Brazil as the South American superpower withdrew its signature on a important, ground-breaking land rental agreements which many hoped would usher a new age of South Africa-Brazil relations. The contract which, when enacted, would allow Brazil to keep four of South Africa's regions and returning the remaining three (Gauteng, Mpumulanga and North West Province), in exchange for keeping the South African regions under Brazilian control, Brazil would pay "rent" totalling 300G to the South African government (75G per occupied region).

Although previously ratified by both of the country's congresses and thereafter signed by the two countries' heads of state - Grimstone and Nihoof - a domestic public outrage caused eBrazil's country president to retract his signature scarcely twenty-four hours after signing, leaving the contract a deeply uncertain fate.

In a statement with President Grimstone on the country forums the president stated, he had "just spoke[n] to Nihoof - the negotiations have been suspended and he [Nihoof] will be resuming talks within his congress. He mentioned he would still like to see this happen, even under different terms."
