J'accuse #4 :Movement for Democratic Unity:
Tommy Tommasino
And so the new manifesto has been published, with the MDU proving that although a small party, it means business and intends to make its voice heard in eUK, but at the same time emphasizing the importance of unity and positive politics - rational debate and decision making.
I'm not going to copy and paste the manifesto, its available on the MDU wiki page as well as in an MDU press release, and there's no need to reprint information.
But i thought i'd speak briefly about 3 of the movement's values which in my opinion are extremely important to eUK politics.
The Free Market, The Liberty of the Citizen & The Independence of the Nation
These three values are all mentioned in the Movement for Democratic Unity manifesto as rights - not privileges - that are core to the MDU and most important to defend and protect in eUK.
Why?
Firstly, the free market is essential to the stability and growth of our society, as I shall now explain.
Interference in the economy by the government or what is commonly known as a 'directed' or 'controlled' economy is extremely dangerous. It is extremely open to corruption is the first point. Already there is a certain detachment between citizen and government, with the majority of citizens not knowing where their money is going. A planned economy, in this system would simply take far too much manpower to plan & police sufficiently. We have limitations on eUK, and to create a fair, see-through and viable directed economy is not possible, in fact it is a wild and dangerous idea that carries way too much risk.
Secondly it is not natural. The Free Market naturally leads to supply and demand. Directed economies often become weak through un-natural mismanagement. ie it is better to let the market run its course, and if left alone markets will come around in response to the consumer. Directed economies leave high risk of bad decision making - even if not corrupt.
Thirdly citizens rights to innovation & independence are scuppered. Companies should be free to compete in an independent system free of government interference. Companies should receive support from the government, not directions. The Liberty of the Citizen is extremely important, and thus more citizens need to be encouraged to get involved in Politics and have their say. Although this encouraging and a campaign for more involvement would take time and manpower in itself, if we can get more people involved, we can get more done!
Comments
I was happy enough until I read point two. Not natural? There is no such thing as a natural economy, the free market is not a force of nature, especially in the context of this internet game. There are also simply far too many arbitrary restrictions in this game and not enough players to rely on free markets to provide any kind of service to new players. Just look at the job market for example, there are simply no offers for new players with zero experience other than through the government run department of work.
Thats why companies need more support. Currently companies are struggling, but the answer is not to interfere in the workings of the economy.
But what John is saying is that giving that support from the government is interference with the workings of the economy. Once the government gives aid to companies that are struggling, so that they hire new workers, it is a form of command economy, albeit, nowhere near as extreme as it could be. If you read the original manifesto, that comment is on there as well.
