J'accuse! #2

Languages

Its with interest I read an article recently on the community forums about language in the New World. Some nations like Romania are reported to run mainly in the Romanian language, while others such as Czech Republic or Thailand use predominantly English.

The question is, should countries in the New World adopt English to encourage a mix of nationalities in one nation, or is the use of many languages important to the diversity of eRepublik?

While I think your residence should not be chosen simply due to ones real life nationality, the idea of a variety of languages on eRepublik appeals to me - I myself am looking forward to writing a newspaper from my organization in the Maltese language (despite probably only having 3 or 4 potential readers who could understand in the whole of eRepublik!).

I also believe eUK should embrace the diversity of languages on eRepublik (and i'm sure what i'm about to suggest may very well already be happening). I would wish that where possible we conduct foreign relations in the language of the nation in question. There must be numerous french/spanish/german speakers for example in eUK, i for one speak French (& Maltese but I'm not sure that will be so useful...). Why rely on these nations to speak English? We could probably make firm friends if they see we go to an effort to speak their language.

Many countries in the real world do not use English as their #1 language of foreign affairs. Poland for example regularly uses French.

It would be nice if we could have an eUK group of translators to aid the Foreign Secretary/Prime Minister, or make sure ambassadors to certain countries speak the language.

Long live diversity!
