Its time to wake up!!
Auggustus
After the last few weeks, I have been checking out the community of the eNL. I have kept a low profile, mainly because I wanted to see how the eNL is currently functioning. Trying to see who is who again and see where our community is in need of that reform.
I am happy to say that our current CP has done a good job. Acting quick and making orders and thinking strategically. The only thing is that with the recent invasion of Belgium a lot of people were not sure of the course that was being taken until being updated a few days later. it was more of a covert thing.
Another thing that I have noticed is that congress for the most part is dead on the forums, and that there is no information about it in the media. I get the feeling that there is a severe disconnect between the players of the country and the government. That being said there is room for the community to grow and communicate better with one another.
All this is almost in a sense depressing. It feels like were in the death throbs of a community. It is for sure not the same community I left behind all those years ago. I feel that the spirit has faded but the love of the community remains.
We have the active "hard core" community members who are in a sense the pillars of the community. Some still bitter over the events of the past, that are for many long forgotten. They act like bitter old men trying to cling to the past, to the word of the law, and as a result have lost the spirit of the of the community. But even they can still be saved!
I find it funny in that my opponents candidacy he spent much time criticizing a returning veteran, for his return, rather than welcoming someone back into the fold.
I remember during my active years, all the times that Andreas quit and returned... and hes still here and I love him for it! Hes one of the people in the community I have the most respect for, and I have never heard an ill word spoken about him in all my years. Through thick and thin, he has always been there even when he has not been here. Thats the spirit of the community right there! He is the spirit we all must strive for!
Another Hero, who i must not forget is EPIX. Hes one of those members who will basically just always be there. I have never seen him in bad spirt but always been a positive influence on the community. Hes the Bro that just keeps on Bro 'ing. Hes a player that has never had any ambitions in politics and I can respect that. Hes always been there for the fight though! He has served this community many times, and is loyal to a fault!
The reason why I name these two people, is because they are people in the community who have been there through it all. They hold no grudges, they respect others and receive respect in return. They make it seem effortless!
They are virtuous men of our community. The types of players we should all strive to be. They are in my eyes the greatest heros of our great nation!
I know I will never be like them, there is to much history between me and others. But it does not mean I do not try to strive to the qualities these men posses!
We all have our faults, but I am a firm believer that time heals all wounds, and that we all posses the ability to change for the better.
I believe that we can use these qualities to make the community better. Something we as a community should strive towards.
They do not ask for honors, medals or laurels.
But I do feel that I must mention them because they are the unsung heroes.
I want to thank them in any case on behalf of myself and a grateful nation for their service.
But how do we get there?
First we must toss away our resentments we have towards one another. Time heals all wounds. What might have happened in the past should stay in the past. We must learn from our mistakes, and not let history repeat itself.
We must also innovate our community.
The past decade has shown us major advances in communications, but still we cling to the old. Its time to move forward. Innovate the community.
We should not cling to the pillars that crumble in hope to keep the community upright, but drive new ones, rebuild and strengthen those we have.
We need to get blood into our community again. For how else can the community live forth.
I understand that i will most likely not win the election on the 5th.
I have not returned to win an election or to stir up old grudges.
I am here because I want to be here.
I am running for CP because I want to wake everyone up!
Why? because...
I still believe in the community.
I believe that this community still can be saved.
I have hope, that people will wake from their slumber, role up their sleeves and wipe the crusts out of their eyes.
I hope people realize that we can continue to keep this community alive through modernizing it, and irregardless of the election outcome.
I will strive towards this goal and hope that you will do so with me.
Long live the eNL!

So, coming back as announced having the time now as I'm awaiting a flight;
Actually a lot of the problems you describe are true, which isn't that hard as it's been the problem mainly all the time I'm around here. On cause and solution however we differ.
If congress is dead on forum I wouldn't know tbh. But as forum congress and the game itself were disconnected most off my eRep life that hardly a loss for the game. Same goes to a certain extend for forum congress and gov. And due to the implementation of the dicktator module the ingame congress and gov are disconnected as well.
I wouldn't say gov and the in game community are disconnected however. As a matter of fact this is the most connected gov for quite some time where the CP himself is actively communicating with a lot off players on all levels. Filling in the gaps others are leaving behind. I think I have to go back in time 2 RL years or something like that to see sort off the same connection.
And yes there is a hardcore community. Also divided; Hardcore in game and some leftover hardcore forum players. The latter becoming ever smaller, likely causing the dead forum.
As for clinging to laws/pillars and or other things from the past: I agree. That's the main issue I had being in gov or active on forum. Even when being commander, and hoping to be relieved from that, made me experience that during several gov's. Which is the main reason I refused several gov functions the last 2 years or so and are not seeking to retake command. Funny its coming from you as I always felt you were part off that part off the community. Perhaps, if you hadn't been that much inactive, I would have seen you act with an more open mind indeed.
As a last remark; Everyone deserves a 2nd (or 3rd) chance. For me however there is one criterion that has to be met; That person must show he learns from his mistakes, or show he understands what he did wrong. If not he's not ready for that next chance.
Well thats why i am saying that maybe we should be looking for ways to make things less tedious, a more open sense of community. We could also be looking at making the game feel like its less segregated from each other. As for the past we were focused more on assuming control. that was the nature of politics. However my platform was usually to reform stuff, working out new ideas. thats what im good at 😛
Perhaps true. I never witnessed it so it's likely from before my time.
But if that's your strong-point I'd advice you to join forces with another candidate. One that is known and don't try to do it yourself for reasons made clear to you by several. If you really would want to help eNL find the connection with players (again) and start like all newcomers have to; At the bottom. As you know your ways and several other matters from the past I'm sure you could add valuable insights or even really make a difference and even "climb the ladder" way faster then a real newb could. If I may suggest; Try Shawtyl0w. It could proof to be a valuable couple.
yep, tl dr. better luck next time.
The two comments above sum up the grudge.
Basically if you even bothered to read the article it describes how that type of attitude is killing the community. Ty ver much Weekstrom and Zeeuwsmeisje for proving my point 🙂
When someone dedicates themselves for bettering the community showing some sort of imitative, whether you agree with their politics or not then i think a certain respect should be given. I believe that there is no longer the stepping stone to advance as easily as it was in the past. But being a community representative does require dedication and effort. Weekstrom and Zeeuwsmeisje, might dislike me and show no respect (as seen above) but it doesn;t mean i will go down to thier level and disrespect them in return. I know that their intentions for the community are good. Something i have learned over the years is that politics should remain politics, doesn;t mean i should dislike them as people. if they chose to act like this towards me I will just choose to ignore them till theyt show some sort of decency towards others. The community does need life blood,a nd we should be granting others the opportunities as well to take a more active part in the community. The reason for deputies is to train them, I have always felt that excluding people from the governance aspect of the game is petty. I know that the last time i was CP, Zweeuwsmeisje was actually a minister in my gov. She ran her department well and the only thing i wanted to ensure that the gov was a non partisan order. In those times however that was not always the easiest thing to do. Also because of the fact they were in gov i did not restrict them from expressing their views. I know zeeuwsmeisje can at least confirm that statement 🙂
Also it is sometime good to have certain ministers for longer terms.it gives more stability. I am however more in favor of a continuous gov setup where the minister positions doesn;t change from CP to CP. I bel,ive it would be better to have departments and have people rise through the ranks within the departments than being appointed. that was people from the departments get know each other as well as any ins and outs.
For me you are just another random from the past, I'm not interested in someone like you, that's the true, go back to your inactive elife. You are just another twat behind a medal which want the same shit we are living: five retards as ethereal fail ministers
Disrespect? Funny. If you had been along more often you would know I seldomly, if ever, use tl:dr as it indeed is a form of disrespect.
There are 2 persons however that are mingling in eNL's affairs way to often and in my mind also within your closeby circle that always use it, even on articles a quarter of the size yours is, if it's from someone they upfront disagree with most off the time (make a guess...). Reason for me to use it this time, accompanied by the (y) as I would read it later on. I could have added a 😉 naturally but that would have spoiled the fun. Sad to see this also is missed by you. Mainly due to the disconnection from the game you have due to being hardly active the last couple off years.
And if I have to guess, thinking off myself I know her a bit more than most; ZM will likely have had the same reason to post that comment.
Do I dislike you? Not at all. I do however have a problem with the fact you don't seem to learn from your mistakes (or, but I find that hard to believe; Really don't understand sh^t of the error you made). For that reason I would not like to see you anywhere near certain gov positions for reasons explained in my post above. Apart from that; I haven't seen the best off you I guess as ever since I play this game you hardly were active and when in an official position hardly seemed to care about it/took it seriously. The latter not giving me any form off trust you would stay active should you become elected.

No, this community have showed again the lack of everything, basically I don't know why do you called that a community when it's just a bunch of twats playing being the "pillars" as you like to call them in a dead place with 0 opportunities and same mistakes, so I don't know, but a community who always choose the same five retards in the same positions is just doomed, it's a fact
just to be clear I chose my minister for a reason in my second term, they knew my plans and I did select 3 new deputies to get new players ready for a minister position. I hope you can understand this, if you don't or think it stupid than that's your right I guess. 🙂
Just ignore him.
Yes Shawty ignore the facts!!
No, you are the toxic of the community described in the post, that's all.
Coming from someone like you, irony.

"I find it funny in that my opponents candidacy he spent much time criticizing a returning veteran, for his return, rather than welcoming someone back into the fold."
There is a difference between criticizing a returning veteran and pointing out that it would be foolish to trust someone who has been out of the game for far to long. Not to mention you yourself come from an era which contains many "hard core community members who are in a sense the pillars of the community."
Don't take it so personally. Cheer up and welcome back!

As I said im not expecting to win, but i did cause a small shit storm of reactions, which is always fun to watch. As for your statement, standing in your shoes I would probably agree with you 😉
Don't hide behind a wall, you know better than everyone here that you tried to archive something using as excuse a fancy come back

Returning players will always cause a shit storm, especially when they are internationally known. Just do you, If NL has any common sense they will bring you back into the fold. And if not, come to Norway. Good luck!
Don't you need Spanish speakers for the Chilean community that is eNorway these days Joshua?
Obviously you don't have a clue what is going on in Norway. So why bother make such an unintelligent comment? Nvm, I forgot you were 8.
For the record we've secured Norway and Chileans are dropping like flies. Thanks for your concern.
The real problem is if you guys can maintain the same situation, also don't forget the Norwegian community are five active people, that's all!
Considering 13 people have come to Norway to help fight the PTO alone, I would say your wrong about that.
And it shouldn't be a problem. We took back all our Party's, won Congress elections and shut them out, (10 more passes for us) and now we have a PTO free CP elections.
The ones left are very inactive and almost every day now another returns to Chile.
What's your point? it's clear 13 active people are a low population, still not a real change Joshua, I admire how you like to have great expectations from something which is still weak
There are still 21 Chileans in Norway. So how could just 5 Norwegians and 13 allies beat them?
Joshua, just ignore him. he is awesome and all , we just don't understand him. *cough*
I could hold barely my eyes dry, such kind words 🙂
i was weeping while o wrote it 😉
