Its Time to Enter the World Stage

Day 1,124, 06:17 Published in New Zealand New Zealand by NZ Newspaper Association

A short history of eNewZealand
When the admins first introduced the new countries, the forum active group (mainly former USA) elected a provisional government. We also decided that we were going pursue a stance of "active neutrality" in other words we made MPPs and fought wars how we liked, not dictated by other countries. This of course was debated on in the forums but after the initial vote it was clear that the forum active population were happy with this decision. Then came the first congress election, the "PTO group" as it was labelled just lost out on a majority in a hard fought election and it was clear that the struggle between these two groups in New Zealand was going to be a long one. Thankfully Calbe managed to unite both groups for the Presidential election and we were blessed with a united government for the first full month of eNewZealand. Come the next congressional elections though; it seemed as if the Aotearoa party was gaining a slight lead over the "ATO group" and managed to gain a majority in congress. This then led to an outrage by many members of opposing parties and the united government broke down. By the time the CP elections game round again on the 5th it was clear that it was not going to be a joint candidate as in the previous month. As the day progressed it was clear that over 50% of the votes cast were for Don Kronox. Following this was a mass migration out of the country. Mainly the ex-USA group left back for USA and many others left for their original countries as well. Who was left to run the country? It was all the remaining members from the pro-phoenix countries who were willing to co-operate with the Serbians/Slovenians as they had done with calbe.
Then we had the issues with the NZDF, no need to go into this in too much detail but it resulted in the treasury being held hostage and the NZDF disbanding. As a result of this we had another mass-migration out of the country as all the soldiers were fed up with a ruined Army and went to fight in more organised ones. The Serbian/Slovenian government have a large majority of the opposition for the foreseeable future and its time we start working together.

So now we stand in a far different position from when we first setup the provisional government. The government is pro-phoenix. Almost three quarters of the population are pro-phoenix and our bordering countries are pro-phoenix. It is time for us to stop hiding in the bottom right corner of the World Map and begin to contribute in the larger scheme of things.

The next step

The Advantages of joining Phoenix
The first advantage with joining Phoenix is that we can use our MPPs to ally with major Phoenix countries and can participate fully in wars going on throughout the eworld; it's a lot better when you are actually on one of the two sides in a war instead of just balancing tentatively in the middle. This would also come greatly in use should we, one day, want to invade another country. Joining Phoenix would also make other countries think twice before either invading us or PTOing us. Also, being part of the Phoenix Council gives us a voice in eworld politics, we can give our opinion on major issues and we can be a part of the bigger picture. We will also get active Phoenix citizens wanting to move to our country as we will be only the second English speaking country in Phoenix second to the UK. At the moment English speakers sometimes move over to the US and Canada as they have no Phoenix option other than the UK.

Why not EDEN then?
We are bordering Indonesia currently, the minute we join EDEN we will be wiped off the map. Australia are currently off the map and when they eventually do come back, I doubt they will be in a position to pose a threat to us. Especially since we will have Phoenix support against them.

We'd just get wiped

How will we go about this?
Senior members of the NZ government have already expressed a desire to join Phoenix and are currently deciding on the correct means of doing this. The plan is that we will sign approximately six Phoenix MPPs this term and then make an official application next term. This way the process is not to sudden. Of course, I bet there are some people reading this with their jaws wide open and the eAustralians are probably going to throw a massive tantrum. But I hope that the majority of the population can see the benefits of us joining a super alliance and can follow the fine example of CrusaderCarl who isn't particularly fond of Phoenix however realises the importance of working to the needs of the country. I am sure that after a few terms people will be able to see the positive effects of this decision.

They've got the Ashes to worry about!
