Italian Presidency on the recent diplomatic events

Day 948, 05:41 Published in Italy Italy by Farnesina

This article is made to clarify because public opinion seems troubled and articles with incorrect information or unfounded accusations will follow on the pages of national and international newspapers.

Two days ago I decided to submit to Congress an offer made to me by the Spanish Government that I, MoFA, the HQ of Esercito Eitaliano and the Elite had already deemed worthy of being accepted.
The Congress was briefed in detail on the pro and con of this operation and its members were invited to vote according to conscience.
Regarding our diplomats and military movements I am absolutely sure to have the support of the Army, the Italian diplomatic corps and Congress (which with yesterday's vote is declared explicitly in favor).

The project involves the conquest of two regions of Mexico, including a region with high oil. Spain has needed our MPPs with Mexico to start a war with that country. I wish to underline that it was possible to sign the MPP only because Mexico is currently under TO (and will remain for next month) and largely occupied and controlled by Venezuela. If it would be a free and independent country we would not accepted the Spanish offer.

During the discussion we talked about the risks that the transaction involves, mainly at diplomatic level. But we firmly believe that any alliance would affect our project because: 1) the country under attack is not free and independent 2) we believe that this mission is justified by two long years of military involvement in international affairs (that our friends would not reward in anyway) 3) the plan has the EDEN approval and I don't know why, at least for our purposes, it shouldn't have approval from Phoenix also 4) It is not our intention to change the diplomatic balance by this move (we have stressed several times that it isn't our intention to enter into Eden these days we politely refused to sign MPPs with other EDEN countries, while we sought an agreement with Brazil to ensure stability in the South American region).

We know that this plan is full of unknowns, but we believe that Italy is trying to take something for its own after long time of diplomatic and military efforts.
This move could be considered risky, but we got confirmation from our diplomatic talks with country close to us that Italy would not achieved any form of reward for his service.
We felt it was time to accept a proposal that could be considered controversial, in order to release a diplomatic, military and economic situation that we saw doomed to an inevitable and lasting stagnation.

We know that Entente doesn't like our move, but we believe that our attitude is in line with that adopted by our allies in recent times.
The future of the alliance depends on the form in which our allies will react to our actions.

One consequence of Italian-Spanish agreement was the possibility that Phoenix could officially protest. But there are something to say: a) Italy is not a Phoenix member b)it does no harm for them, but a benefit accruing to a country historically friend.

For Italian government is not eligible any interference from our friends and allies on this plan. I repeat: we believe our move is legitimate and justified in order to receive a reward for all the support given in the past and present.
For this reason, we disapprove the first reactions of Phoenix. If the short-sighted and arrogant policy of this alliance believe that the good work of a country could be repaid with rudeness, defamation or military retaliation. We will obtain the appropriate consequences.
Our intentions have been always friendly, but we not waver in front of unacceptable provocation of those which believe and know to be stronger.
If Phoenix does not accept the strengthening of a friendly state will mean that has gained an enemy.

We wait for our friends and allies for further clarification, hoping to repent and he begin to see our actions according to a fairer perspective.
Now our country would see who is really our friend and who is hidden behind a false mask of amiability and empty phrases.
