Issue 7 - The Legendary Quest for an Iron Importer
Glade
As the Secretary of the Treasury, I was assigned a task by President Arbryn – to find an Iron importer. And I must admit that I am failing miserably, despite my many contacts.
WHY DO WE NEED AN IRON IMPORTER?
A few weapons companies are set up and ready to go into business. But they need a supply of Iron so their workers can make weapons, and as Singapore is not abundant in Iron, an importer with reasonable pricing for its iron and enough gold for an export licence is desperately needed. And this kind of importer is, I’m sure, in plentiful supply. I just need to look harder.
This leads me to my point – I seek the help of the Singapore public. I am sure that one of you know a decent company which can import iron to us at a reasonable price. Fair prices are under 60 Q of Iron per gold.
So, if you have any recommendations or information concerning this issue, please contact either myself or Arbryn, by PMing us ingame or by a comment on this article.

I have had a few companies contact me that you (and I) spoke to but so far everyone wants us to pay for the import license. To me that's a very bad idea considering they are reaping the profits so I have to decline. As I myself have a personal import here and I have got several others to import some items as well I don't see the need to waste govt funds on private companies importing. We just need to find the right seller and I am confident we will find a business interesting in making profits that will import even if we have to go down the list and message every one of the Iron companies in other nations individually.
ah crap, this is Arbryn btw, lol
I forgot I was on the Org account /blush
That's the second time I've seen you do that!
Right. Conversation ended. Focus on the article and Arbryn (SC😎's first comment.
This is more important.
When your on a citizen and 3 orgs all day sometimes you lose track haha
But ya basically I think if the government funds these companies imports that defeats a lot of the whole concept on trying to find importers in the first place. We need sellers that want to sell here and will work to help singapore, even if its just to help their own pocketbook. We don't need to bribe people who may, or may not even end up selling much stock here.
WHAT DID I SAY?
Unnecessary conversation ended once again.
Btw just joking 😛
Why don't you guys just buy a cheap iron company in indo there are a ton and they sell for like half the price of starting a company and then you sell half the iron and ship the rest to your gun companies or you guys can just take over a country that has iron and is weak and then yeah we will have our own iron supply but then that would make up bullies and probably not the best choice to take
@ xflag, an license is needed to export iron to other countries.
i think it costs 20 gold.
I heard it was 10 not 20 but yeah in the end the whole thing would cost like 20 gold, but hey you know just tossing in a little feed back, maybe it might be something you wanted to try or hadn't thought of yet.
@ xflag Thanks for the feedback. Everyone's opinion and ideas are valued.
Export licenses cost 20 gold. Plus whatever cost for the company, plus whatever costs for payroll. Plus if we used Singapore funds we wouldn't even being employing Singaporean citizens which is also something we need to try and do with what little money we have. Foreign companies paid with Singapore money is not a good plan for these reasons. While yes we need iron, it isn't good to do several counter productive decisions for 1 productive decision.
@ Arbryn I think you would be suitable for my current job in the next Cabinet, I think.
Of course I agree!
To further sum that up essentially it could cost as much as 50 gold to create a Q1 company in another land and export here. We could almost make 3 Q1 companies here that provide jobs locally in Singapore for that same cost since we already have SGD for payrolls and don't have to buy foreign currency.
Don't lose heart Glade you will find someone. Just message what look like successful Iron companies until you find one interested. Thats kind of what i did with grain and food companies and i got several importers. The worst that can happen is they say no thanks and you move on to ask the next one.
Ok.
why we dun ask indo iron companies to export to us?
How about offering incentives like lower or no tax for an amount of time? Don't know if it helps since I dont know how taxes work.
The taxes for importing are the smallest they can be so yeah
or you can make an org (5 gold), place it on a country with a lot of cheap iron in the market, buy the iron with the org, and donate it to your eSingapore company..
just a thought..
Good idea!
Yeah but the obvious problem in that is that you just can't donate all of it because if you do that how are you gonna pay the workers in the other country.
@Gabriel - that is essentially what we did do and would have to do if we want to make more weapons but it really doesnt help the economy to do everything black market.
A large predicament, I will contact my ex-Indian friends to see if I can help. They will say get it off Indo;s though
The only way that this would ever work in our favor is if you invest, if you take over a piece of a country close by that has iron it would end up being an investment that would pay off in the future but the only problem with it is that war cost 20 times more than a company and also if we do take over a country we are liable to any alliances or friends that we upset so yeah no matter what this is not gonna work out for us. 😞
You don't have to conquest to succeed. I have run many companies in many lands where the raw material was an import and I made manufactured goods and sold for profits still. we jsut need a steady supply of Iron imports.
yea, like sendin' a guy overseas where they got tons of iron and just sell em back here. it could open up good relations between the countries if the organiation is successful. we get iron cheap, they get people employed, a win-win situation. with the iron, we can then set up a weapons factory and hire our own citizens.
@Gabriel Valentine: That's true
Calculations : Organization (5g)+ Local Company (20g) --> 25g
Company (20g) + Import License (20g) + Import Tax (lets say its 5g) --> 45g
So all of us should (actually have to) agree its a good idea.
Well, regarding the idea about buying a new company in Indo, we don't have to just provide steel for Singapore, we can make work as an actual company so we don't have to worry about profits. Just make sure that the CEO or the shareholders(is there such thing in Erepublik?)are looking after Singaporean Interests.
