Avatar is basicly the picture or photograph which represent the person on internet and online applications. Let's see what the terminology say about it.

av·a·tar   [av-uh-tahr, av-uh-tahr] Show IPA
noun
1.Hindu Mythology . the descent of a deity to the earth in an incarnate form or some manifest shape; the incarnation of a god.
2.an embodiment or personification, as of a principle, attitude, or view of life.
3.Digital Technology . a graphical image that represents a person, as on the Internet.
4. (in science fiction) a hybrid creature, composed of human and alien DNA and remotely controlled by the mind of a genetically matched human being.

In eRepublik I have had a glance on avatars and seen that plenty of types are used. Then i tried to categorize them in main titles.

It is seen that some avatars are personalized and adapted or adopted with the player's short message and character. We can give Argrob: the legend of the game, as an example. The lion picture and the "for my lioness" message fits very well with this example. Also AlexMCS182 always has Arctic Foxes on his avatar which is dedicated to his lovely Foxy. Besides that mmany players prefers to put their citizen name on avatar to personalize it partially.

Here you can see some avatars selected randomly at the game from different eCountries

Most generally the personalization is larger as groups on some avatars such as military units or special groups created in eRepublik.

Other common application, which is most usual, is using the national flag or its colors.

Also Cartoon characters, celebreties, anime scenes, ancient or recent symbols and picture from movies are oftenly seen.

We can also see real pictures on the avatar section but it is very rare.

here are my avatar designs.. send me a message if you like any of them
