Isolation of regions ( A proposition)
Lawliet94
Article No. 3 of my newspaper
Looking at the eRepublik map (yes, I do in fact use it) I noticed that there are a lot of regions owned by countries that are totally surrounded by other countries. Cut off from the "homeland". Then I got to thinking. How would this work in RL? Well the answer is that it probably wouldn't. Regions totally cut off from the bulk of their country probably wouldn't prosper too well. Especially if it was surrounded by an enemy. In real life we don't have countries dotted all over the place because it isn't feasible.
So here's my idea to pose to the admins. (*gasp* Another idea!!)
Regions cut off from the rest of their country would receive a penalty on productivity, taxes, and defense points. In addition, if all of the surrounding regions are owned by countries at war with you, it would not be possible to move there. If you've noticed, people in RL don't usually like to fly over war zones to get to where they want to go. Right?
Now there are those of you who might point out my eUS citizenship and the fact that right now, implementing this idea would most definitely hurt my countries enemies more than our allies. ( A notable example being Indonesia, or even Russia) And this is true. Right now it would. But that is only temporary. The eWorld will change, as it always does, and it could just as easily be the eUS with a colony in say, Southern Mexico, that this would affect.
So what do you all think? This is open to critique, so feel free to add your suggestions in the comments below! Let's see if we can't get this above 50 votes! 😃
Proposed by Dr. Pwnguin
Adding the concept of a "supply line". If there isn't a link between a region and the region the soldier is fighting from, the soldier has a reduced damage.

Sounds good to me.
this is true, and would make the game more lifelike...giving a more in depth feeling...good article
Examples of this exist, including Alaska, but it hasn't had to experience a time of war with Canada separating it from the rest of the country in recent memory.
Imagine how this would apply to a country like Hungary. They have Hungary, Switzerland, parts of Ukraine, parts of Russia, parts of Canada, and parts of the United States. Their home territory of Hungary might be affected by this since their capital lies elsewhere!
Since we teleport to our jobs and battlefields at ease in eRepublik, I don't think a region's isolation will ever do anything.
NO!!! IT WON`T WORK!
@ Rheinlander von Phalz:
Well, I'm not saying that doesn't need to be adjusted too. I think this is the most relevant point to make though, on the whole general mish-mash of "distances" in eRepublik.
@ Yono:
WELL, WHY NOT?
It's not a bad idea, but there are several things in this game that aren't like RL that would need to be changed, if that's the your goal. The most glaring example would be the war mechanics. This needs to be changed before anything imo.
it's called an enclave, genius.
Good idea!
I like this idea! I also think to piggyback would be to restrict travel a bit. Such as the further you go the more expensive... I'm not sure how that would work with the production of tickets but that would be interesting.
There should be a 'supply line' mechanic. I.e- that if there is no land boundary linking a region to the region (Or 'line' of regions) the soldier is fighting from, that soldier should have a damage penalty when fighting in the war.
@ TheAlex:
That definitely would make things more realistic. Perhaps q1 tickets would only get you so far, q2 a little further, so on and so forth. Good idea!
@ Dr. Pwnguin: I like that idea. Same concept I was proposing for the most part. Added to the article.
West Berlin was completely surrounded by East Germany yet it managed to thrive
this is a decent idea but it can be inplemented and doesnt even work in RL
Interesting article. I like the idea. Admins should add it to their list....
I approve of this idea
Actually, it does work to a certain extent. The cost of keeping the tanks in Iraq fueled runs approximately $14 per gallon when figuring in the refining, and shipment from the US to Kuwait, and then from Kuwait up MSR Tampa to the end-destination. The same fuel in the states runs between $3-4/gallon.
