Interview with EDEN Supreme Commander Shoot: On the Allied resurgence (eHungary)

Day 652, 17:21 Published in Hungary Canada by Adam Legge

Welcome to "Conversations", the newspaper that brings the thoughts and opinions of prominent eRepublik figures to you, the people.

This is a young newspaper, only in its third issue. However short-lived, it has seen a more rapid change in events than some in their whole eRepublik lives. In the first article, the fires from the Battle of Ontario were still smoldering. Where the proud nations of North America stood, now only PEACE's mighty footprint remained. By the time the next article was conceived. The Spanish countryside, the Canadian shore, and the American East all crouched eerily silent, as if as the Earth's soldiers simultaneously held their breath. Perhaps this was it, a quiet battlefield and a looming armistice. Perhaps the sound of silence was simply the sound of reloading arms.

As I write this issue, the PEACE trenches have receded. While just a week ago, many thought the point of no return had finally been reached, the hotly contested border began an opposite acceleration. PEACE's boomeranging advance is closely followed by Canadian, American, and EDEN soldiers.

Events in the past week had widened the aforementioned cracks in PEACE's foundation into indelible gaps. The PTO of Italy, the Romanian-Ukraine alliance, both orchestrated by members of Fortis's brawny eastern brother, EDEN. As the driving force behind the allied resurgence, EDEN's eight countries have provided the hope the anti-PEACE world needs to continue their fight.

As I last spoke with PEACE (now ex) Secretary General Matthieu Bonne, this week I had a conversation with Swedish EDEN Supreme Commander Shoot. I caught up with Supreme Commander Shoot at 14:20 eRepublik time, day 652 on the Canadian IRC. The conversation went as follows:

Adam Legge: Good evening Commander!

Shoot: Evening!

AL: First, a general background question. Can you give a statement concerning EDEN's official stance on the actions and attitudes of PEACE, which the eWorld has witnessed this summer?

S: Well, we find PEACE's actions this summer and previously to be disgusting. They have time after time repeated abusing mechanics to their best, political TOs, stealing new countries' treasury etc. What made PEACE strong is that they stopped doing that but instead threatened people to join them, that is how they have so many members now even though there's only three or four members I'd count as 'members', the rest are just puppets too scared to act against them. But regarding this summer, I just giggle at the fact that PEACE continue to troll themselves into believing that what they are doing is a defensive action, they said they attacked and went on their imperial mode because they got intel that US and Canada was going on the offensive, that's just an excuse to be imperialistic.

AL: Matthieu Bonne, in the previous edition of "Conversations," said that PEACE's actions were merely to prevent any further Fortis advances into Europe. Can you comment on that?

S: As I said, it's simply an excuse for PEACE to go imperialistic mode. And as far as I know Fortis had no such intentions, how would they when they haven't formed and officially had one member?

AL: As I've mentioned, last week I spoke with (now ex) Secretary General of PEACE Matthieu Bonne regarding the current state of the alliance. Quite poignant was his affirmation that the war was, in his opinion, over, and that he was "proud of this success". How do you respond?

S: PEACE did win the first phase of the war, but they didn't end it. We're counterattacking and I'd say we're soon going to have liberated all our allies' regions. And regarding being proud of the success, I'm proud we made them waste so much gold. They've been stocking up for so long for it to be possible to win this war thanks to their gold.

AL: Well put. The month of August was an embarrassing time for the members of Fortis. PEACE's military muscle consistently out-wrestled North America. However, with the exception of (now restored) Spain, would-be invasions of EDEN territory (Croat campaign, and Russia's attack on Nord-Norge) have been decisively countered. How do you account for EDEN's success against PEACE?

S: Well, I'd say we haven't been so successful. PEACE simply had way too much gold, it's hard to count it out but I wouldn't be surprised if they had ten times our gold, and that is a lot in terms of warfare. So, at the same time we have been losing a lot of regions we have shown that we can still be strong without being rich.

AL: Definitely a valuable skill when countering a power the size of PEACE.

S: I wouldn't really put [Fortis] out in the cold here. EDEN and Fortis went hand in hand into this war, so we lost the beginning of it as well.

AL: This has been a victorious week for the anti-PEACE coalition. Naysayers hold that PEACE, in bringing America to its knees and obliterating Canada and Spain, is finished fighting, having accomplished all that they aimed. What reasons do you cite for the sudden shift in military fortunes?

S: Heh, while I would understand that point of PEACE propaganda, they really didn't finish fighting, they simply say that they stopped fighting because they don't have more gold to spend and the gold they have they're trying to save for defending their outposts, for example, California.

AL: I suppose you can only feed a fat giant for so long.

S: PEACE's goal was to extinguish Florida, NY, and Cali, where US had it's Q5 hospitals (I believe). They still never went for Florida.

AL: How important have events like the Italian PTO and the Romanian-Ukraine alliance been in the stifling of PEACE's march?

S: I'd say none. Italian PTO was just a wake up call, it really didn't make much difference in terms of PEACE's power, however it did show Italy and other puppets that they aren't prioritized by the PEACE Powerhouse. As far as I understand, Romania TO'd Ukraine to force them to sign a treaty or something like that, but I don't think it really mattered. Ukraine is just another one of those puppets that PEACE doesn't really care about.

AL: With Ontario, Asturias, and Texas all recently secured, where are the sights of EDEN and its allies set now? In what direction is this war going?

S: Our goal is to protect our current border and liberate those that are ours. Primarily we want NY/California back, but we also want the other American and Canadian regions that we haven't liberated yet. At the same time, we're being threatened at other borders so we're going to give them the focus they need.

AL: Last week, I asked Matthieu Bonne what has to happen for PEACE to end the war. What has to happen for EDEN to declare World War III a victory?

S: Well, obviously to liberate all the regions of the allied forces would end the WWIII for us.

AL: Is EDEN interested in an invasion of PEACE territory in pursuit of reparations?

S: That's a thoughy to be honest. EDEN are and never will be imperialistic, but this game is about warfare so we will probably be going on the offensive sometime, but I guess only time will tell.

AL: EDEN's relationships with Fortis and PEACE are well-documented. Could you, for the readers, summarize EDEN's current affairs with Asian Sol and the Latin American AHA?

S: Well, sadly I haven't had the pleasure of being in contact with either Sol nor AHA. They're both, to my understanding, PEACE puppets "in disguise" so I guess that is why they have no interest in contacting us, nor do we have in contacting them.

AL: Finally, do you have a message you want to convey to EDEN and its allies?

S: "Keep on rocking." 🙂 Nah, I'm not much for cheesy statements, so I guess that's the best I can do.

AL: Haha, it was great talking with you, thanks for your time.

S: No problem, and thanks for the interview!

Last week Matthieu Bonne stated his belief that the war was over. While it should come as no surprise that this would not suffice for fiery Commander Shoot, it was a farsighted few that would predict the state of affairs just one week later. Perhaps next week, we will click the World Map and find that the PEACE patriot's were right. Perhaps we will see the PEACE giant awaken from it's late summer slumber and stamp out the allied ashes.

Perhaps not.

That's all for this edition of "Conversations", I hope you've enjoyed the article. Don't forget to catch next week's Conversation where I will speak with emerging alliance Sol's leader, Snayke.
