iNCi Owl Festival - Fact and Fiction


I am sure many of you saw this article written by captain33. Perhaps you took offense at the symbolism of an owl conquering an eagle. It is certainly ripe for interpretation.

16 Shells did some investigating which included interviews with iNCi higher-ups. You are advised to read on. Perhaps there is much to be learned from our eTurkish bunkmates.

Conveniently scheduled to begin on March 25th, the Owl Festival is basically a party. And just like every American holiday, there is a story behind the celebration. The story behind the owl festival goes something like this:

According to the legend
One day an owl fell in love with a girl. But because it was an owl, it could not proclaim its love. It was crying every night “hu hu hu hu Hurley Hurley”(Hurley is name of the girl). One day an eagle came and kidnapped Hurley. Needless to say Owl was angry. It went to the Mountain of Eagles. On his way he saw a lion. Owl destroyed the lion with his “love power” (I am thinking Austin Powers here?). The owl destroyed everything which would keep Owl from his beloved. At last, Owl reached the top of the mountain. It got very angry when he saw Eagle and Hurley. Eagle was trying to rape to Hurley(!). Owl made eagle blind with a single swipe of his claw. It buried the eagle still alive at the top of the mountain. And it dressed Hurley with its fur. When the young maiden saw the owl's heroics she fell in love with him. They were married, descended from the mountain, and had lots of sex in a cave. It was the 25th of March.

So goes the Myth.

In anticipation for the commemoration of this heroic tale, iNCi ran an auction. The Owl Festival needs an honorary hero, an otherwise ordinary citizen who is given the great honor of a special uniform (avatar), a glorified Grand Marshall. Most importantly, this honorary “King for a Day” will receive the full support of the eRep Owls in the upcoming elections on... you guessed it... March 25.

King Semi won the auction. An auction that raised 110 Gold for their party. Can anyone say “win”?

Now why do you need to know all of this?

Because the Owl Festival is a perfect description for why the iNCi party is so successful. Allow me to explain.

Let us not forget that this is an MMORPG. Yes it is Massive (in no small part because of bots and multis!) Yes it is Multiplayer and Online. And here's the rub: it is a ROLE PLAYING GAME. I am not a journalist in real life. You are not a weapons manufacturer. Heck, you may not even be an American. But in this game you can be whatever the heck you want to be within the confines of the rules. And iNCi has mastered this fine skill and is perfecting it into an art right in front of our eyes.

The entire mythology surrounding the Owl and Eagle is a story written by a contributing member of the iNCi forum who does not even play eRepublik! This story is perfectly crafted to, in the words of one iNCi leader; create “emotional momentum” for their party as they head into an important election season. For them it's a laugh riot. One leader called it “emotional role play”. Do you see their strategy?

They've got poker tournaments, poetry competitions, Backgammon, Rummikub, and who knows what else all planned out for a week-long bacchanalia. These folks have figured out the social Role Playing aspect of this game. They have quite literally invented a Mardi Gras for themselves replete with a pointed political agenda. Folks, they are winning.

Meanwhile, the rest of us dismiss them as trolls, racists, interlopers, overlords, and so on. This may make us feel like we have the high ground, but we don't. While we are calling them names, they are playing this game like it's a Stradivarius in the hands of Joshua Bell. In our hubris we want to think that they are trying to insult us! What they really care about is how funny it is that we find it insulting! It inspires them emotionally. And isn’t that just human nature? In a game it is.

Here is what I am saying. The Owl Festival is brilliant because it is not real. Go ahead and Google it. Nothing. No, they are inventing their own mythology and their people are having fun playing along.

Beware eUSA, because come March 25 we are going to witness the highest voter turnout we have ever seen.

And we had better.

Bir gün bir kartal gelmiş ve baykuşun aşık olduğu kızı kaçırmış. Baykuş buna çok sinirlenmiş.. Hemen kartal dağına doğru yola koyulmuş. Yolda karşısına önce bir aslan çıkmış.. Aşkı uğruna aslanı yok etmiş.. Yoluna çıkan herşeyi kız uğruna yoketmekten kaçınmamış baykuş.. Sonunda dağın zirvesine ulaşmış, birde ne görsün: kartal kıza tecavüz etmeye çalışıyor. Bunu gören baykuş çılgına dönüp tek bir hamlede kartalın gözünü kör etmiş,.. Kartalıda canlı canlı dağın zirvesine gömmüş. Ardından kendi tüylerini yolarak kızın namahrem yerlerini kapatmasını sağlamış.. Kız bu centilmenliğe hayran olup baykuşa aşık olmuş.. O gece dağdan inerken mağarının birinde 25 mart günü aşıklar birbirlerinin olmuşlar ve evlenmişler..

Böylece Myth gider.

Burada bu önemli olmasının nedeni budur. İNCİ rol yapma oyunu için üstün bir yaklaşım kullanıyor. Onlar duygusal halklarının motive etmek için fantastik hikaye icat. onlar eRepublik toplumsal motivasyon oyunu anlamak çünkü İNCİ kazanıyor.
