I ♥ the Vuvuzela
Longbaugh
I'm seriously thinking about changing my newspaper to "The Vuvuzela."
When I watched my first game of this World Cup (England vs. USA) I didn't even notice the vuvuzelas. Then, I saw the ridiculous uproar in all of the national medias. In the face of international opposition I began to stand up for the South African tradition to relentlessly blare this beautiful instrument for 90+ minutes.
Believe it or not I was actually woken up yesterday by a vuvuzela. At first I was angry and annoyed; as I tend to get whenever I'm abruptly awoken. However—after a few moments of lying in bed—upon realizing what it was that was breaking my slumber, a smile broke out across my face.
I've grown to love these £3 plastic beauties. And, I don't take the players' complaints seriously... particularly because they tend to complain about anything they can wrap their minds around.
HAIL VUVUZELA!

I'm not a fan of football, but my mate was watching the game yesterday and it was really irritating.
Maybe when your watching it you dont notice them.
@ S7eve
For all those opposed to the vuvuzela, they've come up with technology to drown it out on television.
I for one am opposed to this.
Longbaugh, you are quite mad, but it does seem great articles comes from your madness.
I just hope another vuvuzela in the morning doesn't take you over the edge.
Naging about the vuvuzela was a sign of a lack of excitement during the first matches of the Cup. I don't mind the noise of the vuvuzela's, but I like to say that word out loud - vuvu-zela, vuvu-zela,... 😃
If my mate wasn't into football I'd have no idea what The Vuvuzela horn is or was.
Footballs that funny game English people play isnt it?
Dont they waste millions and millions on it every year?
All that money doesn't seem to be working.
I love that picture of Picard. It's ace.
The 2006 World Cup final is only the second time in recorded history that as much as half of the world was doing the same thing... watching the 2006 World Cup final.
And... that picture of Picard IS ace.
LOL... oh i hate the vuvuzela...
I went to 3 games now. Even with earplugs I am now half deaf. Nice atmosphere, but very bad for the health - especially if you are at the games live!
you say 'doing the same thing', I bet when China and India go to bed, half the world is sleeping.
Though on the telly, was the other time, the eagle has landed?
i lol'd
@ Joniff
When China and India go to bed America and Canada might be sleeping, but everyone to the south stays up for the final. My friend's mom woke up at 5 am to watch Mexico tie France.

As long as there's not correlation between those vuvuzelas and the shitty quality of play I've seen in the WC up till now, I won't be hating those incredibly annoying 'instruments' THAT much...
I hate them SOOOO much!

I think the south african response to several complains was funny to say the least - learn our tradition, respect our culture.
Fair enough!
I mean when europeans go to Africa they have to be nice guests. When africans come to Europe we have to be polite hosts. It's always about them otherwise, you are racist!
Well, call me racist but I'm done trying to understand other people culture. When in Rome do as the romans do. That or crack his head open and send him packed to the jungle his coming from.
When 20 whites boo a black player is called racism and the club gets a hefty fine. When a WHOLE stadium booed HIS OWN and only white player FIFA looked the other way as if nothing happened.
"When in Rome do as the romans do."
Grab a vuvuzela and start bzzzzzzzzzzzz-ing then 😛
I don't care, but it seems thoroughly retarded to me to randomly blow on a montonal instrument for hours and hours.
@ Tomazim
Desmond Tutu has unashamedly worn a ridiculous hat at Bafana Bafana games and has likely partook in blowing on the vuvuzela himself. It's the World Cup!
