I'm Drunk on Technology Right Now
Edana Savage
Friday afternoon Chicagoland in RL was hit by a monster storm. Hurricane force winds wreaked havoc in a line that streached in excess of 800 kilometers north to south. Of course, I was outside when it hit. 😃
Where else would I be? *scoffs*
The air was heavy with humidity and a blistering 33 Celsius. I love it that hot. It's my favorite time of year. The hotter and more humid the happier I am. I don't even own an air conditioner.
Anyway.....
It was beautiful. The squall line was all lavenders and pinks with streaks of silver, a roiling mass of clouds in beautiful chaos indicating extremely high winds only a few hundred meters overhead. It was moving in excess of 120kph and was past me before I knew it. Then the ground winds picked up bringing with it the wind, glorious lightening and torrential rain. It felt so good!
Weather geeks call this the stormgasm. I'm serious. It's an actual term. Very apt. If you have never experienced one you don't know what you are missing. Although, I would caution you that this is not for the faint of heart or for those who do not have a healthy respect for the storm. Doing this could get you killed, but usually not.
After I get what I want, I go inside.
I was at work when this happened, and went home a couple hours later to find the power out at my house. It was out for a total of 32 hours! I live in a very populous area. This was quite unexpected. I expect this in the technological abyss out in the middle of BFE, but not here!
So yeah. Powers back on and I am drunk on technology at the moment.
So if you were missing me, that's why.

I heard you Storm chase! I did like Storms as a Kid and I have seen some pretty righteous thunderstorms in Ft. Benning, GA.
Welcome to the future! Here is a random clip that came to mind 🙂

I live in a Top floor apartment In Ireland, stormgasms on the daily. Except its cold and it rains instead of being hot and humid.
In contrast I detest humidity. It's wreaking havoc on me atm! 🙁
I'm a great lover of technology too. It's really excellent.
I'll finish with this:

It's making me think of the crazy Autumn I had in the Kerry mountains.
I'm a major fan of storms too, can't get enough thunder and lightning!
Love the air after a wild storm, sizzling..
Glad you enjoyed yourself 🙂
We get some pretty wicked storms around here in Maine. I laugh when they say on the news that tropical storm so and so will come in with winds of 40 to 50 mph. We get that all the time in the winter. Makes it cold as hell too.
We have been getting the calmest weather up by me, some rain, no thunder and nothing impressive in the last week. 😕
Sounds like a fun storm, but blech no interwebs.... 🙁
Also, Heat = baaaad, perfect weather is sunny enough you feel it on your skin and nothing more. *nods*
in Ireland, we don't have major storms, just the Tail ends of Storms in the Carribean, atually, Ireland is the safest place in the world (well expect for the bombs) as we don't suffer from any thing major
but i live in the ass whole of no-where, and back a few months(i think) it snowed loads, power was out nearly every 2 days,
johnsmith shame on you...no major storms? uh hello?
wot, you are telling me the Kerry mountains is an anomaly? or a microclimate?
And rather than thinking it as the a**hole of nowhere, I prefer to remember that for me, being remote means it is the last sunset in Europe 😛
Grainne, were i live their is no major storms, i am done for then as i am going to Kerry in Aug
