I Have Won This Game

Day 785, 19:50 Published in USA USA by livingabroad

It's over for me now. I beat it, I became a congressman. I can't go any further without adding anything but stress to my life. This is a game, after all.

So here, I announce my retirement from this game.

Last night I my internet went out. I hadn't worked. Frantically, I did everything I could to make sure I wouldn't lose my Hard Worker's Medal progress. Then I stopped, and thought about it. Why is a game making me so driven to press a couple of buttons? I couldn't find a good reason. After that, it spiraled on, and all the cons of this game came to my head.

We keep calling ourselves anti-imperialist, but who the hell cares? It's a game, we make the morals.
Too many people have stopped to think for themselves, and sway with the general idea.
When did it become anti Phoenix, and not Pro-American?
When you bring that point up, why should you be hit by 50 "Phoenix Propaganda!!!" comments?

And then I began thinking of things in another way.

With the time I've spent here, I could have learned a foreign language, become a Grand Master in chess, raise thousands for a worthy cause, you name it.
If you've ever played the game Civilization, you'd know that once you win you get the option to exit game, or keep playing for no goal. That's how I feel now. I could be playing for fun, but the fun's not worth the time.

And then I thought of the pro's, of the great people I met. Until, I realized I could have met equally brilliant people in the real world had I wanted to. And I thought to myself, if I'm even considering quitting, why should I consider staying? It's a GAME.

By no means do I think you should quit. Win your game, then make your own decision. But I've made mine, and it's time to go. No, I didn't think I'd be doing this when I ran for congress, but I do wish one man in particular the best of luck in February elections. Patches O' Houlihan, get yourself in congress.

Thank you the UIP, thank you to the wonderful people of the State Department, and the people I was just beginning to know in Congress. Live long and prosper.

I'll be gone for good in one day, so with this, it's a good bye!
