I am running for Congress in Hainan!

I am Gnaeus Progenitor:
- Born under President Gaius Julius.
- Paid my way out of the Wastelands to a Fortress State.
- Fought to secure North America from the Hungarian foe [with all of my, at the time, newb powers].
- Besieged the regions of Liaoning, Heilongjiang, and Karnataka [sometimes, like Jęwìtt, with my bare hands].
- I've seen good men quit and the enemy win. As a congressman I will do my best to make sure neither continues to happen.

^That made me sound epic.

Résumé:
- I served as Secretary of Communication [then later as Deputy Sec. of Comm.] for The Bull Moose Party - where I wrote updates and promotional articles for the party.
- I did a brief stint in the Community Development Program.
- I have served one full term as the Party President of the Technocratic Party of America (currently on my second term). I helped it rise to the top fifteen parties within my first month and still plan on promoting the party as well as remaining active.
- I am currently the Press Secretary for President PigInZen.

Important Issues

Education and Information
Educating newer citizens is very important. The [url=http://]infohub[/url] implemented during Josh Frost's second term is an excellent tool for players, old and new, to learn more about the eU.S. and the game. The North American University, another education tool, is not as excellent - it could stand to have many improvements. I would like to work with the NAU to make it more efficient as well as to recruit experienced and knowledgeable players as teachers. Furthermore, I would not be opposed to the government aiding auxiliary schools set up by parties or individuals - much like the government currently does for militias.

The Scale of the Economy
One of the most important aspect of everyone's eLife is their paycheck - whether it be from owning a company or working for one. Currently, when you receive payment for your work, the government scalps 22% in all sectors of the job market. I would be in favor of lowering the income tax to 20%. This would provide slightly more disposable income for players, particularly for newer players. The Value Added Taxes for manufactured goods should be lowered to 5% [Food would be the exception, I would advocate that food products should be lowered to 18%]. Alright, so I am in favor of lowering taxes, but I also want to raise taxes - the import taxes. I would like to raise the import tax on all manufactured goods to 5% and on all raw materials [except Diamonds, which should remain at 1%] to at least 40%. Many people have advocated raising the import tax on raw materials to higher levels, including PigInZen. I tend to lean more and more protectionist each day.

Retention
There is a persistent need to spice up the New World. Whether you're pro-S.E.E.S., pro-B.R.O.S., or pro-Zoli [or just pro-kitten] - everyone wants this game to be more exciting. And it is not just excitement that we want; it's social interaction. We need to get more players on the IRC - few would disagree with me on this. I will continue to message players and urge more active recruiting for the IRC whether it is through advertisements or word-of-shout.

The Military and Militias
The eU.S. Military has competent leaders and, from the perspective of congress, is pretty much a whole other beast. I would seek advisement from members of the Military for matters pertaining to war. Some of my closest advisers in the Technocratic Party of America are in the eU.S. Military. With concern to militias, the Office of Militia Support is doing a good job so far dealing with the militias and I would hope that they can continue to reach out to these private fighting forces. It is my belief that the Military and the various militias help greatly with regard to retention.

Foreign Relations
Eden has hit some speed bumps lately. Allies are going at each others' throats. This is part of an alliance. We need to do what we can as a country to patch things up with our allies, even though I personally believe that the eU.S.A. does not deserve all of the blame that we have been getting. NXNW has taken responsibility for the Sindh incident and has said that we must move past this hurdle. I am reminded of a quote by the real life, long dead, diplomat Talleyrand [google him] "It's worse than a crime; it's a mistake." People and countries make mistakes - but we must not continue to bicker because of them. Looking out for each other and working together is the best way to fight Phoenix. The country needs to take extra care in mending relations with one of our greatest allies - Croatia. Our countries' cordial relationship goes back for quite some time, and focusing on regaining their trust is a good priority.

We need to work on striking Phoenix in its high resource regions, and we cannot do this alone. As we saw in London and Heilongjiang, Phoenix uses mutual protection pacts and mobile defense forces very well. Eden members must work more cohesively, and communicate better among themselves. I believe we could reach out to countries like Iran, which have had difficulties with Phoenix, and try to urge them to leave the enemy alliance - not to necessarily join Eden [initially, at least] but take more of a neutral stance. Finally, no foreign relations section in a eU.S. congressional platform article would be complete without mentioning the Brolliance - Canada we love you.

Version 2
Version 2 is supposedly just around the corner and I will do my best to ensure that the eU.S. is prepared for it [though, I have it on good authority that the government has already taken steps to prepare for V2].


I hope to serve the eAmerican public well in congress, if elected. I will publish my votes in regular intervals and stay a proponent of Government transparency.
