I demand...
Martin Warmonger
As a citizen of the eRepublic of South Africa, I am hereby asking the Government and Congress to arrange a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION, to where each and every citizen is invited to vote and propose on extra parts, or the removal of parts of the Constitution. However, as many may have noticed, we don't have a Constitution. Thus, this convention will also be to actually create one.
The eRepublic had a constitution briefly in the first or second erepublic, however, I've never had the honor to see it. I also propose that a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION be held once each year, with the participation of all citizens, and with nobody having a higher voting power than anyone else.
Please, share your opinion.
Comments
Of course, the Convention is to take place over a the time of a few weeks or months, as creating a constitution is not a thing to be rushed.
i dont see anything wrong with it.
This will put Role Playing to the test
Roleplaying is awesome, but like I said on the IRC, this is pretty straight forward.
Or, you could just run for congress. And propose amendments to whatever you want.
No. I'm proposing a Constitutional Convention, so that every citizen can have a say. We haven't really ever had a constitution, except in the very old days.
I think it is a constructive suggestion.
"Or, you could just run for congress. And propose amendments to whatever you want." x2
The idea of this is so that everyone can have a say. I doubt the entire country can run for Congress and be voted in.
And amendments to what? We don't have a constitution people.
We do have a say. I'm not a member of Congress, and I've said plenty. I don't really get to vote on things, but I can argue anything proposed.
The idea of a convention is to have a vote and the ability to propose.
"The idea of this is so that everyone can have a say. I doubt the entire country can run for Congress and be voted in."
I, a NORMAL CITIZEN, proposed to delete Censure from any laws and such. You know what the GOVERNMENT did? They DISCUSSED AND VOTED ON IT. It didn't pass(mainly because of a lack of an alternative and overall bad presentation), but it was VOTED AND DISCUSSED.
But yeah, at least make articles over acting first, that's a start.
You are still missing the point of this. I was motivated by our country's lack of a constitution. Before I went absent I also wanted dearly for us to have an official constitution, but never really had the time nor motivation to make it one of my priorities. Now, fast forward a year, I have learned a lot. I am not making this suggestion because I want to propose a "Brazil is enemy fo' life foo'!" to the Constitution, I am making it because I believe if we involve everybody and not just the Congress of the time, we can have a REAL constitution which was made for the people and BY the people.
I also think you guys are seeing too much, or thinking about "Martin Warmonger" when commenting or reading through this suggestion. Please act as if I didn't suggest it, because I can assure you that this has nothing to do with my opinion concerning the Treaty or Brazil.
And you don't feel that was achieved by Congress, who was voted in BY THE PEOPLE?
*sigh* Can we please stop with Congress? A Constitutional Convention isn't something I just made up, they actually exist in real life, and in real life, NOT only the legislature attends. I want every citizen to be able to propose and vote on things. I'm not saying the entire country's citizens should now be Congress members. I am asking for an annual event where people can propose and vote on laws.
"I want every citizen to be able to propose and vote on things."
Every citizen already CAN propose things. Now, if we were to suddenly get an influx of anti-eSA citizens(say a PTO's baby-boom/multi-farm), would you like for them to vote to self-destruct eSA permanently(like literally, self-destruct button and all), instead of proposing it(where people can realize that it's not actual eSA citizens)?
If you don't understand that paragraph, think of it like this: NOT EVERY CITIZEN will be a real eSA citizen, and those will not be having eSA's interests at heart.
Would you want a Polish person(who for example...wanted to harm eSA from within), who has had citizenship for one day, be voting on the same level as actual eSA citizens?
No... we aren't idiots. If we are clearly being PTO'd, the Convention will be delayed. Also, it's about them doing it jointly at an event where everyone (everyone) can see the other citizen's proposals and vote YES, NO, or ABSTAIN on them. There is nothing negative about what I am suggesting... I want the country to have a constitution. There are /no/ cons whatsoever.
I would like to see this have a chance Martin. Bringing forward suggestions is the right path to working together
FROM a person who has called for this exact thing before ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN all it does is divide and destroy our community because of the fights involved, also since we can;t change the political setup of our nation any forum powers given are redundant and can't be enforced check the archives on the politics section in the forums to see
DUMB IDEA SORRY BUT NO
another thing don't think for two fraking seconds you can DEMAND something form the government of the people sorry you can suggest and propose but FIX YOUR DAM TONE before you start making some very powerful enemies by acting like an angry child .just propose the idea like a professional and leave it from there
"FIX YOUR DAM TONE before you start making some very powerful enemies by acting like an angry child"
....You first.
I do still think it is constructive suggestion.
i do think it is alot of work for small gains but i am still prepared to support. a constitution is also what one stand for, the ideals, ie what is protected by constitution is what is close at heart. I think 'freedom of speech' and incitement could become to a situation of conflict and maybe then not a bad idea. But congress would be able to decide on that too.
Voted!! Its time we have something like this where all the citizens can have a say in giving the country a constitution. Should have done this before, but now is just as good time.
nick jones, now see, personally I keep myself mature, especially when speaking with other people, but I think I just need to say this; "You sir, are an idiot."
Now that I got that out, my conversation with you is terminated.
It hard enought to get congressmen and government officials to follow what laws we have so making a constitution that all SA citizens should follow will NOT work.
Okay. I'm gonna ask everyone to please read the definition of "constitution" on Wikipedia before replying here.

@Aritex, a South African Constitution has nothing to do with Brazzo.
+1 to a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!
+1 to a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!
I'd just like to hear in your own words Martin what you hope to accomplish by having a constitution. I'm just curious as to why we would need one.
