What is IRC?

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a text-based chat application which enables you to speak with multiple other people in real time.

Where does Aus eRep and ANP meet to chat?

Australian eRepublik uses the #ausrep channel and the Australian National Party uses the #anp for chat. These channels are situated on the irc.shakeababy.net server.

The ANP is an Australian political party in eRepublik. We are closely aligned to centre-right policies and are seeking new members who believe in our ideals of small government, individual freedom and responsibility, and strong national security.

How do I connect to IRC?

The best way is to sniff around for an IRC client you like. My personal favourite is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16">Chatzilla because it is free, and an add-on which works directly inside the Firefox browser. It also has all the customisation functions that you may need in an IRC client.

Alternatively you can use the java based widget inside the auserepublik website . Look on the left hand side and you will see the link to the #ausrep channel which can be used simply by clicking on it and a new window will be opened. Also feel free to explore the ausrep forum which is where all major policy discussion occurs.

Step 1. Change your name to your in-game name so everyone else knows who you are. This can be done by typing the following command into the chat line - /nick yourname

Step 2. Say Hi! IRC is a friendly place.

Step 3. To join the ANP channel then type in the command /join #anp. This will create a second tabbed window inside the widget and you can then switch between the two. You will need to get authorisation from an ANP moderator to view the contents of this channel. Message them in #ausrep or when you are joining the ANP in game.

Beyond this simple introduction IRC has many more sophisticated aspects to it which you can research at your own leisure but this should get you started.

IRC is a great way to meet fellow active auserep players and to ask questions or seek assistance.
