How the UIP went to #3 in 3 days...

...and why it happened right before the election.

On the evening of the 12th I sent a PM to 255 non-party affiliated citizens. It was a long message but it basically said, "Please join the UIP, visit the forums and IRC, and vote for PrincessMedyPi." Within 24 hours, 40 people had joined. 18 of them even PMed back saying they did. I chose my 255 people very carefully out of the thousands of non-affiliated citizens.

Inspired by this success, JMC and Jason Welsh both sent messages to a few hundred more non-party affiliated citizens. One was exactly like the one I sent, the other was the same except it did not mention voting for Medy.

Because we used my mailer, which tracks reads, I can see who read those messages. I also have DB archives. So I made a list of all UIP members on the 12th, and found the new members as of 8:00 PM today.

We have 104 new members.
85 of them read one of the 3 PMs before joining.
24 are of unknown origin.

Of the 24, a few are military buddies of ssomo, a couple are long time friends of Mel, and a few are friends of Ath. Another large chuck are UIP military members who joined to vote and will leave again when they are deployed. In no way are these few votes anything close to being shady.

To other parties who are suspicious of the rise: This is not a PTO. This is not Multis. It was just an unexpectedly good recruitment message. I'm sorry if I caused anyone panic in other parties or in the government. I really did not expect so many people to join from this one campaign.

To new UIP members, I want to thank you for joining the UIP. Remember to join the forums and meet us in IRC at #UIP. I did not expect so many new faces and I look forward to getting to know all of you.
