How the Superalliances Betrayed South Korea
Arjay Phoenician
The act of rebirth, in and of itself, ought to be seen for the miracle it is. When a country comes back from nothingness, regenerated after weeks of negotiation, such a country deserves its chance to stand on its legs, dry its wings, and take flight. Even if it is destined to inhabit the sky we call eRepublik for just a moment before it is devoured by predators, I would like to think most citizens of this world would like to at least see it leave the nest before its dream of freedom is destroyed.
South Korea, as created by the legitimate South Korean community and fostered by the Japanese government, should have been deemed such a miracle, and as such, the rest of us should have been rooting for it to succeed in its infancy, even for just a moment, just to form its own government and let their hard work bear fruit.
Unfortunately, South Korea became just another battlefield for the superalliances to spread their manure. Instead of giving the legitimate start-up community a chance to decide its destiny for even a day, partisan blindness and hubris gave Spade and his group the middle finger. As a result, those who stole sovereignty from this group have become entrenched, and while I have no doubt the good guys will eventually win, and Spade and his community will dig themselves out, kick the so-called Theocrats out, and take their place in the sky, they will do so in spite PEACE’s and the former ATLANTIS’s apathy, negligence, and even sabotage.
As a member of PEACE, you would think Japan would have the alliance’s blessings in the reincarnation of legitimate North and South Korean nations. Quite the contrary. Japan has not had the friendliest of relations with PEACE in recent months, one of the primary reasons being their unwillingness to play warmonger with the rest of the alliance, balking at Indonesia’s offers to freely use their islands to launch their invasion of Hawaii and California. Japan’s concerns have taken a backseat as a result. In part, because Japan does not fall in lockstep with the rest of the PEACE, the bureaucrats that control the alliance have deemed their issues, like maintaining the integrity of their own sovereignty as the so-called Theocrats waged resistance wars in their own borders, not worth their time.
PEACE has also neglected Japan because, let’s face it, their Charter is an Orwellian joke, and calling themselves a “defensive alliance” is hauntingly reminiscent of Ingsoc’s WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. PEACE isn’t interested in actually protecting its member states. There’s nothing sexy about following their own Charter and protecting their members from threat. PEACE is all about war, aggression, domination, and there are few people in the world who would disagree with that assessment; even those high up in the PEACE strata would say to that accusation, yeah, Arjay, we’re about kicking ass and taking names, what are you going to do about it? Being an empire would be disgusting, but at least there would be a degree of honesty in calling PEACE an empire instead of an alliance, and there would be a vague shred of integrity if PEACE took seriously its written commitment to defend member states.
There are plenty of people in Germany and Italy who would agree that PEACE isn’t about protecting its client nations from external threats or political takeovers. Japan is not alone in being neglected.
The nations of the former ATLANTIS alliance, currently in fragments called EDEN, FORTIS, and “neutral” nations, did even more to betray the legitimate South Korean community. Their support of the so-called Theocrats is the definition of partisan blindness, the cynical belief that “the enemy of my enemy must be my friend”. In their zeal to kick PEACE in the shins, they will take any band of thieves, mercenaries, and criminals, and they will lionize them as champions of freedom, just so they can do the dirty work. The so-called Theocrats are EDEN’s goons, willing to dish out the cheap shots the parent countries won't perform for themselves. They are hitmen. They are thugs for hire.
We all know the history of the so-called Theocrats. They PTO’d Switzerland, they thought so little of it that they let it be taken over, and in gratitude, nations in the EDEN/FORTIS axis applauded and even assisted them in taking and keeping South Korea. Some might hem and haw over the details, but that’s the general timeline. The thing I can’t fathom is, who do these countries think they are? Who are they to decide the fate of the legitimate South Korean community? They only thing that can explain how such countries can support a band of PTO thieves is superalliance arrogance, their hate for PEACE is so overwhelming an impulse that it’s all they can act on. It’s a grotesque double-standard that so many seem to accept, that a PTO is a horrible act when you’re the victim, but an accepted means to an end when you benefit.
I’m really straining to find a fundamental difference between PEACE and the fragments of ATLANTIS, seeking to discover how one alliance is somehow more honorable than the other. I’ve spent a lot of time criticizing PEACE, but truly, that’s only because they’re the current King of the Hill. In watching the other guys, EDEN/FORTIS and their satellites, I fail to see why one would root for them as opposed to PEACE.
PEACE and ATLANTIS Jr. showed that they will bastardize anything for the sake of superalliance arrogance. If you didn’t know it before, you know it now. All you have to do is look back over the last month.
The legitimate South Korean community, led by Spade, did all the right things, and they continue to do the honorable thing. They worked with the Japanese to negotiate a sovereign South Korea. Such deeds demand respect. They should not be crushed for their efforts, because quite truly, the rest of the world watches, and they realize that new and reborn countries are not seen as miracles to cherish, but prey for the warbeasts to salivate over and devour. The superalliance don’t care about creation, only theft and brutality, and this cynical reality is something everyone out there, especially those seeking to create an ePanama, eJamaica, eNew Zealand, or revive a country like eNorth Korea, must take into consideration. The superalliances don’t see them as miracles; at best, they’re battlefields for two corrupt powers to fight over which is more corrupt, at worst, they’re something to steal, to bastardize, to destroy. They’re as cheap and guttural of victories as there are at eRepublik. True bullying.
And I truly cannot see how one is somehow more honorable than the other. A pox on both their houses.

I don't think South Korea was ever in a Alliance...More like PEACE I think... So w/e anyways
first 😛
I can't get into details right now, but there's a debate in Congress about how we can handle a certain situation. Some -- notably former leaders of eUSA and non-Congressmen advisers -- are saying that we should become like PEACE and get other nations to fear us.
Others, mostly Congressmen and current leaders of eUSA, believe that we shouldn't revenge-attack-and-destroy those who attack us. So it's my hope that eUSA's foreign policy will mostly be influenced by the latter of the two groups.
I hope so Astra...
w.e Peru is sexy. Only fears are TOs...well they do that we will track down where it came from and well...we do have a mobile infantry unit and a Private Military located here, sooo you know 😉 eye for a eye.
As much as I disrespect Harrison Richardson, his comments about this being a "game" are correct and astute. Those who fail to see this will, well, fail, in game terms. Some play for entertainment, some play to win. Even those who only play to enjoy the game must protect themselves from the aggresive players - who could be wearing a white hat or black hat.
It's like children having fun playing in the sandbox and a bully comes along every day and stomps on their sandcastle. The kids will eventually learn to carry 9mm's or else never have a sandcastle to play with. Then the kids will start going to the bully's house and breaking his stuff in revenge. Endless cycle.
I don't know when exactly I became so cynical. 🙁
Ya, don't mess with Peru. Seriously.
Actually, my old friend, my hope is for the kids in the sandbox to cooperate to build a sandcastle, and that they forge such a bond that even if a bully comes along and tries to kick it in, his foot shatters because the kids pooled their money, bought some cinderblocks, and stuffed them into the castle.
The only reason why these bullies continue their actions is because there's always someone selfish and thoughtless enough to support them. Take away their support, and they're exposed for what they are. That's part of what this paper is about, not only pointing out the thugs, but asking, why in the world do you support this kind of crap?
The problem is that the superalliances seems to be like spiders, or even flies..., thousand of eyes, so they continue and continue going after the other eyes when they got the chance...
Canada is a part of Eden, why? because without there help, we would not have been able to get away from Peace Invaders. End of Story.
In fact, without Canada, Eden would be in serious trouble too, *COUGH* Hungary *COUGH*
@Astra
My hope, is that Eden stays defencive, and does not go into another offensive war. If I get into Canadian Congress, I will do my best to make sure eCanada does not go into another offensive war.
I'm getting closer to pushing unsubscribe. I want to hear about things other than South Korea sometimes.
We all know that Peace and Japan hate each other, so the Theocrats were able to TO SK. End of story.
Lets talk about...hmmm Peru, being the only none PEACE member in AHA.
Welcome to Basic Human Sociology 101-The strong ALWAYS eat the weak, whether it be for money, land, spoils, or just for the hell of it.
It's been that way throughout human history, and all you have to do is watch a kindergarten class for a few days to see how it plays out.
Anyone who thinks you can just disarm yourself, and everyone will lve you for it, is naive and stupid beyond measure. And I won't mention the RL names of some of these idiots
Ummm it is a game... lol; who is to say the that one group of people has 'more' of a right to SK than another?
Really boring.
Really.
Korean was not betrayed.
Korean didn't exist.
How can korea be betrayed if korea was not on the map ?
South korean community ?
Where?
esk was annexed to japan, eSK NEVER existed.
eSK now exists and is a strong nation.
Stop bother, please.
ps. this is a game, and now I'm a korean.
Do you want to kick me? I'm a apart of the korean community, you know?
Greetings from a "neutral" nation (as you so sarcastically point out).
Some of us prefer to not get involved in these big alliances since this is what they do: they look after their own at the end of the day. And small countries are the first to be left by the wayside.
PHUZA'D!
South Korea needs workers! Not an alliance.
Arjay, another great article. Unfortunately some of our commrades are displeased with the article forgetting about the virtue of "freedom of the press" and because a lot of war that we have participated in are redundant because of the repetative nature of the beast. It does become hum drum to fight the same way against the same enemy for the same old reason. One needs to read all the articles to fairly gather and sort through articles ranging from lies to complete in your face correctness, when opinions have already been formed by the weary battlers. It's nice to have an array of articles so we all know exactly whats what. Agree or didagre diversity is needed in life even in the newspaper industry. I you dont like an article, then don't vote it up, or for that fact if theres a newspapers views that are known to stir up ill feelings, then wy read it at all.
Here's my impression of you Arjay:
;_;
Do whatever you want, but could you keep the volume of the whining down?
I don't think anyone could really say any major alliance betrayed the Koreans. Simply because they didn't exist as a sovereign nation.
If anything, the only thing that can be said is this : PEACE betrayed Japan in not backing them up when the Theocrats annexed some of their colonized territory.
Peace betrayed Japan? 😃
Peace sent tank to Japan against US (battalgazi, poker, zocky, jazar and others......), but the war in NA or in Spain is more important than Japan!
Yes, but minimising the needs of Japan to fight wars in now defunt battlegrounds, they betrayed Japan.
I also object to the notion that Eden betrayed the Koreans. Korean militias have been seen fighting in PEACE battles. And the Theocrats have been allies of Eden for a long time. To object or stand against them in their time of need would have been a betrayal
You're right Mazza, eSK never existed under your regime. Its TNSK now I believe? (Thoecratic Nation of South Korea) That's what it says on your website.
Woori dashi do ra oltae ni kan, doo gyu bah~
the problem with us NOT attacking them is that it then gives them open initiative in the end.
I'm right, you're right.
Yeah, never Existed. Before us.
I think its about time the british patriots got the eUK out of PEACE!! no matter what the cost!
"PEACE betrayed Japan in not backing them up when the Theocrats annexed some of their colonized territory."
PEACE are a bit busy to help a country who was helped into existance by one of their allies, tbh i doubt that is one of their major concerns.
exactly. PEACE is too involved in its own attempts to TO another country to care about its current members. That is, forgive the language, shit, plain and simple. PEACE is ambitious, but stupid to ignore its members.
and to the idiots that say this is 'just a game,' read a few articles back in Arjay's paper. This is a game, yes, but if you think it is JUST a game, you, sir, are the one that, and I quote, "well, fails in game terms."
If you want "just a game," go play on armorgames.com, and leave serious RPG games to serious players.
'So-called Theocrats' count: 6.
Eventually you're going to have to come to terms with that being the legitimate name of their organization.
And also, could you define 'legitimate South Korean community'?
A magnificent article!
EDEN is Oceania, PEACE is EURASIA, and the Theocrats are East Asia. PEACE is the enemy, it always has been. EDEN/ATLANTIS is justice, and the Theocrats have always been our allies (that part about Switzerland PTOs there is no record of).
Even if two were to combine forces and fight the other in the name of "defense" they would still be at a stalemate. Every great victory will oneday be a great loss. The superalliances are immortal and forever for 3 reasons. They prey off of the peoples nationalism, they control the media, and the strong will use the weak to combat the ohter strong person's weak puppets.
For those that aren't familiar i sort of paraphrased some of 1984 (not very well but hey it's been a while)
@Sloan
So either way it's a betrayal right? So why not make it a betrayal in the name of freedom, instead of in the name of oppression?
Who is being free'd and who's being oppressed is a matter of opinion. The Theocrats deserve freedom of choice outside of PEACE's oppression as much as the eKoreans do.
Who is the opressor and who is are the freedom fighters? Is it PEACE who conquered eSwitzerland? is it eJapan who forcefully conquered eSK? is it the Theocrats who oppress the eKoreans? Is it the eKoreans who would rather allow their country to be annex'd by eJapan then live in a society that isn't absolutely dominated by ethnic eKoreans?
Who are the Freedom fighters? are they the eKoreans who gave away their country? The Theocrats who took it back for them? Atlantis who freed the eKoreans from enslavement to the eJapenese back in the day? Is it PEACE who sent a few tanks in to crush the Theocrats? Is it the eKorean militias that fight Eden?
@ Wil:
An RPG is a GAME. A Role Playing GAME. Those that take it more seriously than that need professional help. The headline of eRep is to rewrite history, and as long as the game allows it, anything goes. There are good guys and bad guys. There are friends and foes. Things happen that you don't agree with. Play the game and do something about it. I don't care what Arjay said in his previous articles. He has no authority over what is right and what is wrong in this GAME. A game is exactly what it is. Take a break from real life and have some fun. Or, be miserable and continue to take this more seriously than it was ever meant to be.
@ Alix:
Some GAMES (as you call them), can be more serious than a simple sit-down, pwn this, pwn that, screw em all types that YOU appear to enjoy. Some require tact and intelligence. This GAME (as you call it) requires just that to get the most out of the GAME's (as you call it) experiences. You don't seem to understand this, and that is why you fail.
"is it eJapan who forcefully conquered eSK?" Just to set the record straight, that didn't happen.
Well, it happened once, a REALLY long time ago. But the most recent instance of Korea being under Japanese rule, happened willfully by a vote of the Korean congress. Japan was in the midst of releasing Korea, as per the original contract, when the Theocrats came in and stole the congress.
And to Alix: Good gravy, man, you really like to jump up and down on this "it's a game" phrase. Do you really think there are people who don't realize it? Or do you need to remind yourself because you feel guilty about what you're doing. I think the latter is more likely. There's really nobody who needs to be reminded it's a game. On the other hand, if you think there ARE people who need to be reminded, I think YOU are the one who needs the "professional help."
I mentioned both times Japan took control of eSK. First by conquest which was forcefully reversed by Atlantis fighting for eSK freedom 10 monthes ago. The 2nd time, they gave away their country since they wanted to oppress the growing immigrant minorities and gain themselves an ethnically pure country. A Korea for Koreans so to speak.
I guess that's one way of putting it, but what they told Japan was that they wanted to prevent political takeovers.
Though I wasn't there at the time. Maybe there were just legitimate immigrants coming in.
Voted!!
Wil, there is no failure in me or the Theocracy. Sorry friend, we succeeded in everything we set out to do because of our strategy and planning. To tell me this game takes strategy and intelligence is quite funny. When you get a little more experience perhaps you can pull off some of the things that I and my Theocratic brothers have and continue to. There is a reason that we are in control of eSouth Korea. We obviously know a thing or two about the game. At the very least, more than Japan.
And Reiji, the "it's a game" thing needs to be brought to attention as much as possible. Especially right now when people are writing ridiculous articles trying to justify "personal feelings" and "national attachments". I think that it is ridiculous that so many people try to parallel this with their RL. I don't cry about what is "rightfully" mine, and "honor" because of that exact reason. It's a giant social game of risk. Things may happen that ruin your plans, but friends and relationships will always be there. Crying over lost blips on a map is a waste of time. Attempt your own strategy to get it back, and build stronger relationships with people... Guilty? Are you kidding? I feel no guilt in any action I take in this game. As long as the game allows it, no guilt should be felt. Those that take it seriously enough to be upset over game mechanics deserve the lesson, and their displeasure brings me joy. I have personal relationships in game, but apart from that, I have no heart in the New World. Isn't that the way a villain should feel? 😉
Everybody needs to lighten up. Or, just continue with these dumb articles, but as the comments suggest, most are getting tired of all of the whining.
