Home Coming

Day 786, 07:20 Published in USA USA by Heather Fuchs

This week we meet the Men and Women of Charlie CO 3rd Platoon as they return home from yet another bounce around the world.

The sun was bright in their eyes as it engulfed the rear of the C-5 transport when the ramp descended. They shielded their eyes with their hands and adjusted their caps as they marched down the ramp. They were back in Karnataka, fresh off of a one night stand in Croatia. Some of the newer guys were a bit jet lagged. China, Spain, Poland, Croatia and back in a little more than a week’s time was not something Pvt. TCTriangle and Pvt. Matt123465 were used to.

They would get used to it, after all this is the Mobile Infantry. It’s not “The Stand Around Infantry” or the “Nap Time Infantry” or the “Let’s Bake Cookies Infantry” This is the Mobile Infantry, we have places to go and people to see, most of whom we then shoot several times. Double tap, learn it, love it, live it.

Pvt. Cougar McPherson and Pvt. Marcus Reid snickered to one another as some of the others in the platoon moaned about their weariness from the travel. They were hardened vets and could handle a bounce like last nights with out batting an eye. The pair had been in the MI for six months and it was hard to tell what they had more of, campaign ribbons or scars. They could fill Madison Square Garden with the dirt they’ve dumped out of their boots from other countries. Still, Cougar was happy to be home and was prepared for some R&R and spending a little time with his dog.

“Sergeant Ritter Jagger”, Lt greggyUT, the Platoon CO, shouted above the hum of the engines while they gathered their gear. “Get everyone situated, food and rest, we need to get our wellness back up the war ain’t over just because we are home. Pvt. Mr. Rice, Pvt. TCTriangle, come with me.

“Home” Pvt. AutumnsDawn thought, “This place is nothing like home.” Being from Alaska the Indian countryside was a complete opposite from her real home. Karnataka was only a home in the sense that it was where she was currently stationed; nothing could take the place of her home in Anchorage.

Lt. greggyUT, Pvt. Mr. Rice and Pvt. TCTriangle stepped into the officer’s quarters. Greegy grabbed a small box off of his bunk and began to tear off the top. Mr. Rice shifted his weight from foot to foot nervously; he had no idea why he had been called in there. Greggy pulled three medals and a document from the box and promptly tossed one of the medals on his bunk.

“Attenhut” he barked and the two Privates snapped to attention. “Congratulations Troopers, you’ve trained hard for these.” Greggy said as he pinned a Super Solider level 2 medal to Mr. Rice’s blouse then did the same for TCTriangle.

“Thank you sir” Mr. Rice replied, then took notice of the medal that greggy had tossed aside, “Who is that for?” he asked.

“Oh that? That’s nothing, it’s a SS level 3 for me, forget about that, we are talking about you here. You’ve also been cleared for a weapons upgrade, Generals Status. Take these orders over to supply and have them get you situated, you can deal more damage now and its damage we will need right away.” He handed Mr. Rice the document he had pulled from the box and dismissed the two Troopers. After seven months in the MI, every second of it spent in Charlie Co. 3rd Platoon, it had become second nature to greggyUT to put the platoon before himself. The SS3 medal was nice, real nice, but he’d rather pin medals on his men than get them pinned on him.

Pvt. Beast4521 and Pvt. MadamRed had situated their gear quickly and, as they finished, Beast4521 questioned “Chow?”

“I’m willing if your able” MadamRed replied making a play on words out of the platoons motto of “Willing and Able” a motto they lived up to with out question. The platoon was always willing and always able.

Sgt. Ritter Jagger joined the two for chow and they discussed the current “lul” in the action. They all agreed that a lul didn’t mean the end of the war, it only meant that something big was about to happen. Europe had taken to the habit of exploding from time to time, and Asia, well that’s a whole different story of how things can go “BOOM!” over night.

Regardless of what course the war will take in the future, the Troopers of Charlie Co. 3rd Platoon “The Mighty Shrike” would be there, just as deadly as the bird in their nickname, the Shrike. You know what a Shrike is? It’s one of natures most kick ass predators, it knocks it’s prey out of the air, pins it to the ground and then, well I think you can figure out the rest from there. Pretty badass though right? Kinda like Charlie Co. 3rd Platoon.
