History of Game Mechanics, Part One

Day 967, 22:17 Published in USA USA by system0101

This is meant to be the beginning of a series of guides for eRepublik players who already know the basics of the game, and are looking for a bit of historical information to broaden their knowledge base. It's meant to be brief with many links to archived info and detail in a wiki format. Delve deeper at your leisure 🙂

The info for this version of this guide comes entirely from the eRepublik wiki and a few helpful citizens, and is cited where possible. If you have detail or personal experience that can be added, please send me a game mail or find me on the forums. Note that I have zero firsthand experience with eRepublik Beta, so if I'm wrong about something let me know.

History of Game Mechanics, Part One

eRepublik Beta openened on November 22nd 2007 [1]. In its beginnings it had a noble premise [2]:

"History is something that already exists. You inherit it and you enrich it with your life experiences. Nevertheless, now, you have a chance to write a different history in the eRepublik world.

"As part of it, you have the opportunity to develop your economy and create a properly functional society with political institutions. You can choose to concentrate on serving your country or to find a way to advance in this new world, perhaps by getting involved in military activity, creating private companies or persuading others to elect you as their political leader."

The early game was invite only [3], and the big draws were the economic and political modules. You picked a name and starting location [4], and had the freedom to run for elected office [5], including Mayor [6,7], Party President [8], Congressman [9], or Country President [10]. You also had the freedom to become a businessman [11, 12], or rule the monetary markets [13].

You were able to create a Simulated Organization (SO) [14] with certain restricted rules [15], buy a house [16], food [17], and moving tickets. Houses had a tax assessed on them by the mayor of the region they lived in [18], mayors could also purchase and place infrastructure [19].

Country Presidents could buy infrastructure, sign Mutual Protection Pacts [20], Non-Aggression Pacts [21], and Trade agreements [22], among other things.

Some activities required gold [23], most commonly to buy and upgrade companies [24]. At first companies maxed out at quality three [25], though Q4 was added fairly early in the game.
