Herr Vootsman goes to Chile

Last month, I realized I needed a vacation, so after discussing with friends and family, I decide to visit Chile!

Sample itinerary provided by my tour guide, Jorge

Originally I was going to go with just my family, but I realize that my country has been so good to me this year, I decided to take the whole eUSA along!

As we landed in Chile, a sense of excitement filled the air. I had arrived in Zona Sur, a region known for its lush forests, pristine lakes, and majestic volcanoes. Puerto Montt welcomed me with panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, where the crisp mountain air hinted at the adventures ahead.

We then explored Peurta Varas - a charming town located in the southern region of Chile's Lake District. Situated on the shores of Lake Llanquihue and with a backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes, Puerto Varas is often referred to as the "City of Roses" due to its well-manicured gardens and beautiful flowers.

Volcano in the background - we didn't hike it this year, but maybe on a different expedition

The next days were filled with exploring Zona Sura. I immersed myself in the wonders of nature, from towering waterfalls cascading down moss-covered cliffs to crystal-clear lakes reflecting snow-capped peaks. Zona Sur's natural beauty enchanted me, leaving an indelible mark on my soul.

Next stop was Zona Austral (sometimes called Zona Asteria). We all traveled south to Punta Arenas.

I think this is the furthest south I've ever been.

We viewed the Straight of Magellan and saw penguins.

Next we went north.to Torres del Paine. This is a pristine wilderness, full of raw and untaimed beauty. These majestic peaks, known as the Torres, are the park's iconic landmarks and stand as a testament to the power of nature. Rising from a granite base, they are often capped with snow and bathed in a golden glow during sunrise and sunset. Adventurous souls will find plenty of opportunities to explore. Hiking trails wind through the park, taking you on unforgettable journeys. We took the "W" trail (it's a nice loop)

Overall the trip was even better than I had expected. I highly recommend visiting. We are still exploring the wonders of this area and I am not sure we will ever leave!
