Talk about being ignorant or playing the smelly troll part..anime ARE cartoons (animated movies if you prefer) but not in a western preconception of the word. Here the prejudice that all cartoons are for kids doesn't apply.

Anime are made for all age groups: kids (kodomo), teenagers (shounen, shoujo..), grown ups (seinen, josei..)..

Well...correction; MOST anime is cartoons actually. CG 3d modeled shows are not typically considered cartoons (example: Toy Story), so see here for a recent exception that is 3d Computer Generated Animation:

an article of unparalleled stupidity!

Every eNation needs a language and cultural simbols to function properly. Those are necessary to create a sense of community and identity, to keep the citizens together, to increase allegiance to the country, patriotism and so on.
Most eNations have citizens from one single RL nationality so it easy for them to achieve cohesion.
But eJapan has it not.
So we use the English/Japanese language and Japanese cultural references.
It is a practical solution to very serious challanges for a multinational country like us.
It is how we have mantained our indipendence and how we managed to remain the only multinational country in the eWorld and not a colony of eSerbia, eUSA or eChina.
