Guide to the Defence Shield
HebronGazelle
The eUK is off to Norway to conquer more territory, but this wont be an easy fight with their 10 billion defence shield. Wait! What is a defence shield and why does this mean we are struggling to conquer their region in the first attack? This guide explains what you need to know about the defence shield.
What Are They, And How Do They Work?
The defence shield is a defence mechanism held by countries in the game which allows them to "absorb" damage done by an opposing country. Basically, it adds damage points onto a defending country at the start of each round meaning the attacking country will have to do even more damage to get the bar past 50% and win the battle. The damage absorbed by the shield depends on several factors such as regions owned and division. Here's how it is calculate
😛
- Available Defence Shield Capacity is divided by number of regions
- This results in the Shield Bonus
- The Shield Bonus is divided equally between the first 5 battles
- This Shield Bonus for each round is then divided into the divisions: Division 1(5
😵, Division 2(10
😵, Division 3(15
😵and Division 4(70
😵
- Any remaining Shield Bonus after first 5 battles is used up in the remaining battles.
Norway's shield is too strong at the moment, so the eUK tries to take it down.
You may or may not understand this, so here is an example based off the current eUK vs Norway war:
Norway has a 10 billion damage shield available. Norway only has 1 region, so the Shield Bonus for the current battle is 10 billion(10 billion divided by 1). Each of the first 5 battles will receive 2 billion Shield Bonus(10 billion divided by 5). Division 4 will receive 1.4 billion shielded damage for the first 5 battles as 70% of 2 billion is 1.4 billion. Division 3 receives 0.3 billion damage, division 2 receives 0.2 billion damage and division 1 receives 0.1 billion damage.
Complicated stuff? Don't worry, eRepublik will calculate all of this for you, and even show it during the battle.
How To Get Defence Shields
As you may have noticed, the admins enjoy to add individual and national missions from time to time. We generally see these every 1-2 months. These national missions will often give the country rewards depending on how many milestones they reach, missions they complete or rank they reach. Most of the time, these rewarded are either gold(which goes straight to the treasury) or the national defence shield.
The rewarded national defence shield.
Just like food and weapons, there are 7 different qualities of defence shield. However, the damage from these defence shields can be stacked up, so there can be more than 10 billion damage in a defence shield.
Q7 Defence Shield - 10 Billion Damage
Q6 Defence Shield - 8 Billion Damage
Q5 Defence Shield - 6 Billion Damage
Q4 Defence Shield - 4 Billion Damage
Q3 Defence Shield - 3 Billion Damage
Q2 Defence Shield - 2 Billion Damage
Q1 Defence Shield - 1 Billion Damage
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the whole shield have to be destroyed to conquer a region?
No. As long as enough damage is done to get past the shield and win rounds, the region can be conquered.
Can one country take another countries shield, if they conquer that country?
No. The conquered(wiped) country will keep the rest of their shield.
Can shields regenerate?
Not exactly, but shield damage can be stacked if the country wins more.

Not sure how well explained it is, so if you have any more questions just comment and I will try to answer them.
I hope you are reading this fans of the Norway war!
Eat our shield aggressors!
We ate 6 billion of it, quite tasty. The extra 4 billion is for tomorrow nights dinner.
The fact over 5billion was deducted from Norways shield in a battle UK didn't even come close to winning a single point in, indicates that we are missing a vital piece of the data regarding the mechanics of shields

we knocked 5.7 billion of their shield. Out of 10 billion. glorious.
Well done. TWO really is awesome.

Thanks understand it better now.
At least I now know what effect the shield has, but we have one as well. What does that do to the damage inflicted?
it basically soaks up damage, you have to do X amount of damage before it pushes the wall back further. They can just add their damage on top.
Am I right in thinking that
any damage Norway lays down whilst defending will reduce the amount we take off of their shield.
in Norway's case with one region; we have to fully destroy the shield to take the region
is the shield bonus that is bought forward to the next round reshuffled into divisions? so for example D1 doesn't do a significant amount of damage, but D4 hits big... would the shield be proportionally smaller for D1 in the subsequent rounds or would they only get what remains of their allocated 5%
Have a read of this from mwcerberus, it gets all technical and stuff:

I was hoping someone would spoon feed me the answers damn it!!!
in that last battle we did 5.7bil damage and 5.7 bil got knocked off because of the way the shield works every single damage we did got taken off the shield as the shield takes damage first (up to the 1.4 bill per round)
if after 5 rounds div 4 have bossed it and destroyed their shields and div1,2,3 have done 50% of their shields then 15% will be left per round (75% total) this is then split again in the 1:2:3:14 ratio for round 6
SO yes div 4 destroying their shields helps the lower divs
I find it quite amusing that you even bother to do calculations, the outcome is so clear. Norway has the same chance that a fox has in a hunt. You are truly great sports.
