PART II: Green Liberal Democrats and the future; main points and issues

In addition to the first part of the GLD presentation, we hereby present the second one. In this article we'll present our vision on ongoing matters and the way we think they should be dealt with.

1. Unity

As stated in the first article, the GLD is very much in favour of the eUNL as we know it now. The merger between Belgium and The Netherlands has been proven quite succesful, and things wouldn't have gone nearly as good if we would have stayed two independant countries.

We are also in favour of English being the main language in our country. Being the unity that we are, it is the only possible way for everyone to communicate with each other. We realise that not everyone masters the English language perfectly, but in those cases we just have to help each other out. Prosperity and wellness comes with a price, this is one of the sacrifices that has to be made.

2. Government activity and visibility

This is something that has to be improved and we are not the only ones who have brought this up. Congress-men who are never active on the forums, ministers who don't have access to their orgs, weekly newsbulletins that are never published; all in all there's a lot of work to be done for future administrations.

2.1 Congress

Yes, the ever-returning problem of non-active congress-men. What can be done against the lazy and the gready? (apart from some diehard ingame-only people) Some of the congress-men you, the citizens, have elected never even bothered to show up on the forums to discuss important matters with their fellow representatives. As a result of this, the idea of a forum Senate has been launched, The reasons are obvious; all non-ingame issues are now debated and discussed by only a small part of the elected congress-men, because most of them aren't to be found on the forum anyway. A Senate would ensure a smooth debating and decision process, as all its members would be active forum participants.

The GLD is in favour of an effective government, but what we find most important is a transparant government. That's why we will closely monitor the debate regarding the Senate. On the one hand to ensure that the game itself isn't being completely cut loose from the community, on the other hand to see that the government can improve the way it works in the best possible way. Something needs to be changed, that's for sure. And we will see to it that the right decisions are being made!

2.2 Government visibility

This is still not the way it should be right now. The government has to make sure all citizens are being reached, so that everyone is up-to-date on ongoing events and debates. That is one aspect of visibility; the other one is forum participation. The GLD forum is currently being visited by about 30% of its total members, the eUNL forums as a whole hasn't reached that number yet. Out of 2200 citizens, only very few visit the forum. This is something that has to be improved.

3. Economy and state companies

The GLD is, and always will be, focussing on a strong local economy with local jobs. We proposed the raise of import taxes on raws and the lowering of VAT and this proposal was accepted by the government. Some feared it might lead to less income for the state, but as of today things are still going quite fine and eUNL economy is booming.

We are in favour of some government control on the economy, but we feel it is important that private initiatives are being encouraged and that is why we would like to work on a plan involving state-loans for starting businessmen or companies looking to expand/level up.

On the other hand there are the state-companies. GLD has always been known as a party with a somewhat critical stand towards them, but we're no fools; we realise that state-companies are needed, for both low level jobs as well as some necessary income for the treasury. But, instead of expanding the number of state-run companies even more in the future, we would prefer that the government encourages citizens to start companies for the desired goods as well, possibly working with the proposed 'State-supported business loan'-program

4. eUNL and the world

Although the eUNL is the result of the merger between two countries, we're still a relatively small player on the world-scene. That is why we are in favour of as many as possible alliances with other, stronger countries. PEACE is ofcourse one of them, but we would also like to see the further investigation on the possibility of a European sub-alliance, be it within or outside PEACE. The world has been burning quite a lot lately, and we cannot risk catching fire these days.

We hope our plans can meet your approval and that you will join us in the process towards a stronger and transparent society. Your ideas can help us further, so join the GLD and vote for bright future!
