GOM8: RolePlaying

Day 2,377, 00:43 Published in Ireland Ireland by Sweet Drinker

The world is filled with grumpy old men.
MU's are built upon them.
Large countries are run by them.
Alliances are commanded by grumpy old men.
Even the women are grumpy old men!

Old guys tend to keep their heart far from their sleeve

We see ppl we liked appear and then fade away
See ppls' private affairs get used against them
We can get kinda cold hanging around here so long

And then we something like this indescribable gem:

Now, I don't know if you know how Irish that comment is. The rl Irish know this is really Irish.
But most of us here aren't really Irish.

There was recently a curfluffle in government about whether players deserve eIrish citizenship simply because they are verifiably rl Irish.
Some of us feel that it's important to embrace rl Irish culture. Others that rl culture is separate to ingame culture.

This is a RolePlaying game.
Despite the arguments between percieved 'mechanists' (like myself), and 'RPers' (we'll just leave this empty to avoid needless distractions😁).
While we all have different personalities, the one thread all of us who intend to remain here share is we're all RolePlying the Irish culture in this game.
With a few noteable exceptions who will undoubtedly introduce themselves below

RL Ireland is not gifted with a large population for eIreland to draw players from.
RL Ireland is gifted with a global popularity for eIreland to attract players with.

American ppl don't open an account and decide they'd like to be eIrish because they want American culture.
Or Croatian, or any other culture.
They come here because they like rl Irish culture.
We get treated pretty well by most other eCountries because they are fond of rl Irish ppl too.

Ever stop to notice that these rl Irish "troublemakers" we have in erep seem to be really well known eInternationally and quite popular?

The point is: we're all trading on rl Irish popularity by choosing to play as eIrish.
So if we didn't provide any Irish culture here, we'd be trading on false advertising really. A lie.
Most of our citizens are not able to provide a truly Irish experience.

Personally, I have a fun perspective on this situation.
I'm not rl Irish, but I moved to rl Ireland from USA many years ago.
I've kinda played this in rl before erep ever began!

Hank curses constantly (Irish)
He casually throws offensive insults (so Irish)
He sometimes does some really stupid $hit (don't.even.get.me.started.)
He can also say/do the most charming things on occassion, like the post above
Hank's Irish Cultural Level: Dublin

Since moving here irl I've learned to curse like a drunken sailor (in proper company ofc)
To parry insults and riposte with wit
And it's nice being in a culture where you can do stupid $hit once in awhile and it's ok cus "fkit".
I've also become far more charming since immersing myself in rl Irish culture 😉
Sweet's Irish Cultural Level: Enthusiast

It's quite nice here among the Irish (as long as you don't look at the sky ;_😉. I've adopted many parts of Irish culture. But some things about me are American. I could change them, I just don't like those particular aspects of Irish society.
I'm ok with that about me.
The Irish are ok with that about me. They're cool like that.
I don't try to force my culture on them. They like that about me. Ppl do that condescending $hit way too much tbh.

So if you're rl Irish - eIrish: be yourself, but try not to let the lulz get outta hand... it can be frustrating.
And if you're foreign - eIrish: try to appreciate the actual culture you're roleplaying. These lot can be geansai-load of fun!

And always remember IRISH CULTURE:
