Give War A Chance

Day 1,396, 17:28 Published in USA USA by PencilPal

Hello and welcome to the Poor Man's Blanket. I'm your man behind the desk, PencilPal.

I'm doing something a little different today: covering the idea of a peace with Spain. Apparently, I'm growing fond of mouthing off about things I know little about, and getting set straight in the comments. Seriously, If I say something stupid or leap to conclusions, call me out on it. If you think it'd be impolite or that it's not your place, you're wrong. It's more impolite to leave me grinning like a fourth grader proud of his art project. On that happy note...

On to the news!

A while ago, President A^2 announced ongoing peace talks with Spain. If Spain's proposal to make the US natural enemies is any indication, it's fairly obvious they don't seem to be going well. But the idea is an interesting one. On what terms should the United States make peace with Spain? Ideally, the United States would take all of Spain's regions, Spain would quit ONE and pledge their undying loyalty to the American flag. Unfortunately, the Spanish have yet to commit to the idea. What they might commit to, however, would still benefit the United States and TEDEN (Terra and EDEN). If they were willing to surrender core economic territories to the United States, (which would be returned after 6 months or so, ensuring a lasting peace) agree not to let MPPs with ONE members expire and not create new ones until four months pass, and swear that the PMB is the greatest of all newspapers (American or otherwise) and that its publisher is both intelligent and handsome, we would have a great peace. Notice the more important aspects of the conditions would leave Spain complete and whole again after a while. There's no way of indefinitely occupying a territory, and so its better to leave our Spaniards with the knowledge that Americans stick to their word, and are benevolent rulers. In this age of alliance vs alliance wars, it's more important to make friends and tip the scales in that fashion than it is to try and dominate forever. The problem at Versailles was the people have the tendency to punish losers instead of pushing for lasting peace.

But until Spain agrees to these terms, why have peace at all? The US is winning, activity is high, and friendliness between our nations is low. Spain is bruised, unable to fight back alone, and missing chunks of its nation. They aren't able to get the damage they want, and would do well to have this war over. So until Spain is ready to truly surrender, I say we give war a chance.
