GF Day: A warning about our future.

Day 954, 12:40 Published in USA United Kingdom by HobbitTon

Yesterday, Day 953, had made an impression on me that will forever leave a permanent scar for the rest of my days. As evident as this may be, I am a new fairly member of the eRepublik community, and I was no where prepared to brace for what was about to occur. My heart stopped instantly without warning, along with the many innocent members of eRepublik who could not do anything but wait. Let's start by how these events were unfortunately set into motion, shall we?

It all started with one person. A community moderator named Necrosis who was indeed having a bit of a fit. In time it grew to a massive tantrum. In spite of the golden rule never to reveal one's critical information, this so called leader publicly released his powerful password, thus giving regular citizens of eRep a whole crap-load of power. At first, I had a huge grin on my face, laughing my buttocks off. But as the day progressed, I was crushed, saddened by the losses of my friends, who have by this time become something like family.

"With great power comes great power comes great responsibility," Yeah, screw that, right? Wrong. As a result of this careless event, many priceless newspapers were messed with. All the hard work of some people, gone within a day. In addition, many accounts were hacked, too. As estimate shows that at least three-hundred accounts were violated.

Even though every citizen is an important part of eRep life, your average Joe wasn't the primary victim in these attacks. Many high ranking political officials were banned in these attacks. It even went as so far to ban the admin of eRep. Now who is to blame in this whole situation? The moderator? The citizens? The eRep staff? Let's analyze.

To begin with, the moderator seemed to be a ticking time bomb, just ready to explode at a time where our defenses were out with a sniffling cold. As a moderator, he was probably chosen due to his moral values, work ethnic and responsibility. As it is a high honor, I wouldn't just blow it like that. Now I can understand if he was made because that is of human nature, but I think there would be a better way to deal with his anger. For example, you could throw a ball at the wall with high velocity or go consult a psychiatrist.

Moving on, after the moderator leaked his password, the citizens went on a feeding frenzy, banning people left and right through the moderator's account. I know many people were just doing this as a joke, but it isn't a joke if you are in the shoes of the victim. Honestly, I thought the citizens would be more mature to handle this, but I guess not.

Lastly, the eRep staff is on the chopping block. The password was released around 17:00 GT (game time). To stop the citizens from getting even more out hand the servers had to put under for "maintenance", which the admins didn't initiate until around 22:00 GT. A quarter of the day passed until the server was closed. Now I understand the secret cave headquarters of eRepublik is in Europe, but shouldn't they have someone who has the night shift?

We are dealing with real money here. Unlike me who is a frugal lad, many people pay for enhanced features in this game such as extra gold. That is not fair because they lose actual money. This deters new paying citizens from buying that extra gold (even with your promotion). Also, I have heard that the admins have been paying people in gold after this event. Isn't that hurting us through inflation?

I have been particularly hard hit because many people who I trust are quitting due to this whole mix-up. In my political party, the United Independents Party, many members are leaving due to their banned state. Some of these members are the one that greedily used the moderator's account to cause chaos, but others were just innocent members.

My final verdict is that the fault was on the administration. This day will never leave my mind, nor it will others. GF Day, named after the moderator that started this whole conundrum, is the day that may have killed eRep emotionally. I know eRepublik Rising is coming out soon, but if you don't fix something now, heed my warning admins, no one is going to be left to play the new version.
