Germany. Europe's prosperity relies on acceptance
Christophia
As debates over alliances and alliance networks grows, Germany increasingly stands at the centre of arguements over how the European nations respond to these criticisms and how they work with their neighbours.
As German Ambassador to the United Kingdom, I would just like to take a few minutes of your time to present to you my personal feelings and opinions regarding these debates and welcome you to the new Germany, in a new Europe. I must stress this is not the official position of the German Government and I am writing independent of them.
As many people know, Germany, much like many nations in eRepublik has a less than desirable past. It is guilty of imperealism and aggression, and this is something I myself am not proud of when talking about my new homeland. It's wars with Sweden are well documented, (although occasionaly twisted and manipulated). For this, Germany has paid the price; it has been occupied numerous times by Sweden, and although Germany is now finally a free land, hostilities continue between the two nations, and threats are constantly being made, on both sides.
This is understandable and completely normal, but now I believe it is time arguements ended and a new era of acceptance began.
A new Germany has arrived. We have a new President, a new Congress, new political parties - our democracy is flourishing. But Germany is still weak, and it is still vulnerable. It has learnt its lesson from previous transgressions and a new administration is looking to reach out, to work closely with European neighbours and put irrelevant alliances aside. Germany - it's people and it's Government, has no interest in joining PEACE, or ATLANTIS for that matter. It is completely true our alliance network at the moment is heaving swayed towards member nations of the PEACE alliance, but the is for one reason only - no ATLANTIS nation wishes to help Germany because of its past history with Sweden, and much of the influence our Swedish friends holds over them.
The German economy suffers because of Swedish actions, but we must remember Germany also initiates trading embargos against neighbours. This is something I wish the German government to stop - to be taken seriously and trusted in this volatile land, it must be shown be trust and take other nations seriously. However Germany's relationship with European friends is also still hampered by Swedish efforts to isolate us. They claim "Germany is PEACE", yet the only thing which pushes Germany towards PEACE (something few people desire) is Sweden's continued aggression and policies. Is it not just common sense that says if a country is threatened it will turn to almost anyone for protection, whether it is in the long-term interest or not?
On a much more personal note, there is nothing more I would like to see than an MPP, or at least some kind of permanent peace treaty with Sweden. We both have betrayed each other and have a past I'm sure we both wish we could change, but to me it seems outrageous and quite frankly stupid to treat the new Germany like a pariah state because of the actions of a past minority, and for Germany to show Sweden some respect.
Real life history shows us it would be better to engage and accept a new state like Germany than to isolate it - something which will ultimately lead to the destruction of German neutrality and the creation of yet more conflict.
I wish for a prosperous but neutral Germany, in a peaceful and cooperating Europe, and I implore all our European friends, including Sweden to help achieve this aim.

"But Germany is still weak, and it is still vulnerable"
I couldn't have said it better myself. Your politicians put eGermany in this situation and now eGermany will have to pay the price for it. Only weak people would give in to the nonsense we've seen from eGermany's politicians the latest weeks.
Dear Maximilian,
would you like to add some details and explanations to your comment in order to upgrade this heap of allegations and populistic slogans to a debatable position?
Greetings
Jan Klose
@Jan Klose:
My views are based on the latest happenings regarding eGermany as a country. Embargoes, the resistance wars, politics and now this...
Your country politicians have done a very good job at showing the worst side of eGermany in my eyes.
Actually, Sweden has nothing to do with the current embargos against Germany. The german leaders brought that on themselves with they short-sightedness.
There's so much to comment on, but I'll just stick to this: "We both have betrayed each other" - Sweden never betrayed Germany. We warred you, but hey, you can't really hold that against us - remember Poland?
On the other hand, we have someone running around behind our backs, into the lap of PEACE, and breach every agreement and chance of friendship there ever was.
Good luck.
Yes, we really forced eGermany to put up Trade Embargoes on us twice in a row because we.. ehrr, what did we do!?
What 'New Germany'? It's the same leaders basically that planned the attacks who are now running eGermany. Isy is even President! And DKN is not hiding very well behind the curtains.
Although several eGerman politicians have told us to stop listen to DKN so perhaps there are hope for a real change in eGermany. I belive it when I see it.
Last time we had an MPP with them they attacked us and placed Trade Embargoes on us, so how much worse could it get in the future..
Thanks for visiting us btw Ambassador.
Preposterous claims. Your article sure would have some impact if it held any truth, but it doesn't.
I do welcome all attempts to unify Europe under a common banner, however, and under the circumstances Justin Tyme and DKN can in no way stand together with us below it.
Germany should and will get another chance. Again. The time just isn't right.
What is preposterous about this article? It is balanced and fair, it criticises both Sweden and Germany.
It is interesting that whilst in Germany, the people there supported the article and welcomed the criticisms against them, here in Sweden, everyone refuses to accept they have ever done anything wrong.
@Boris: What is not truthful?
I have criticised Germany for their actions, but Sweden is also to blame. Why do they not let any other ATLANTIS nation hold an MPP with Germany?
Because the last time we had an MPP you went to PEACE, attacked us and put up a trade embargo on us. How's that for a reason?
