Game of Thrones... Game!

Day 1,686, 15:22 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Talon Karrde

Welcome to the Game of Thrones….. game, headed by me, Talon. I hope that I can entertain some of you, while also energising you to take part in making our nation great!

Remember Red vs Blue? (no worries if not!) It was a good idea, but probably ended in a way none of the players intended for it to. My bad, ah well. I'm now bringing it back!

Of late, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game for me has been party politics, the competition between parties in order to 'win.' This is good, but it does damage unity. So as a bit of an outlet, in addition to being fun, I've come up with this new game.

The theme is Game of Thrones, and so instead of Red and Blue we're gonna have the houses from the books and TV show. If you've never seen it, (you should totally see it!) don't worry, it won't be in universe based at all but rather be a parody set here in erepublik. Even if you've never heard of it you will be able to enjoy this.

We'll compete in our houses to be the best house, and I personally will write an impartial article once a week detailing the exploits of the houses and who is currently 'on top.' That'll be based solely on my opinion and on what the houses tell me. With GoT the world really is your oyster, win however possible, and backstabbing is really encouraged!

I've designed it so we can have our competition and partisanship without impacting as much on national unity, we'll see how that goes 😛

The Specifics

So then, to the specifics! The story of Game of Thrones is all about trying to claim the Iron Throne. The ‘winning’ house will be the one that currently holds the throne, (more on that later) and will gain the kudos for their scheming and hard work, in addition to some tangible in game erep rewards too! Who could claim such a throne, though? Who has the legitimacy to take, and crucially, keep the coveted position? Let me explain.

The houses will be competing in many different quantifiable ways. These individual competitions will not, in and of themselves, give the houses the Iron Throne, but they will provide the means to take it. Any house can call an election for the throne at any time, and the leaders of the houses will then vote for whoever they like from the pool of leaders available (all the houses can pick one 'aspirant' as their candidate, it can be the house leader or anyone else in the family tree) and will attempt to elect their preferred candidate to the throne. A king is elected if they are able to find the backing of 51% of the total influence available. For example, their own house may control 23% of the influence, and it could join forces with another house that held 13% for 36%, and another with 15% of the influence to take it up to 51%, thus enabling their ascent to the Iron Throne. The question is, what will those houses want in return?

Things will not be even though! Each house will have ‘influence’ available to them, earned through the following means:

1 point for every member of the house
2 points for every article the house has released in game (not spam)
10 points for each house member on the small council
10 points for having a ‘House’ avatar
10 points for having a ‘House’ article banner
5 points for maintaining an IRC channel
1 point for every member wearing a ‘house’ avatar on the forums
in the week preceding
50 points for having a complete family tree for the house, including all current members and their position in the family
MULTIPLIER per person married off to another house
MULTIPLIER for King election victories and losses

Points will be totalled up at the end of each week, and reported in an article by me. Points will also be totalled up if an election is called, and points = influence for that election. Houses would do well to keep a running tally of their own points so they can predict how they could win an election!

With these points available, then, houses can work together to defeat more powerful houses, build coalitions based on mutual profit, and much, much more!

Who will win the Iron Throne?

When a king is elected, they will have a 48 hour period of grace, in which no new election can be called and they can rule the houses in peace and attempt to cement their rule. A prize of 100 Q6 weapons will be given out to the house with the current king every Sunday so it’s obviously of benefit to a house to bear that in mind. Cunning play will therefore be rewarded!

It’s up to the house leaders how they govern themselves, and anyone within a house can try to take over at any time, though they may have a hard time persuading the forum admins to let them! Evidence of superiority would be required!

In addition, the houses would do well to look at the points available for influence, and act accordingly. Easy points are available for a family tree and some basic images, for members wearing avatars and the like. They should sort this out immediately! Below are explanations of three important parts of family life.

Family Tree- Each family is exactly that, a family. They are relatives, and the family tree must reflect this. Each family must provide me with an up to date family tree every Sunday or they forfeit the 50 points available for this. It is the responsibility of the Lord of the house to ensure this is done.

Marriages- Alliances between houses require a marriage to cement them! If you want influence to be king, you are going to have to give up one of your members to another house to help gain their members to your cause. This can be a good thing, though- which house will the traded person be allied to? If your own, they can report back on their findings! This is a useful way to spy, but also serves a purpose in helping to elect kings. Marriages work as influence multipliers too. A marriage alliance gives a bonus of 10% influence to each of the two houses involved. For example, a house with 100 influence would gain an extra ten points by enacting a marriage with another house. If you break a marriage alliance, the 10% influence bonus will be reversed and your influence will drop by this amount instead! This bonus will last for as long as the marriage endures, and the anti-bonus for breaking will last for 3 days.

Elections- If a faction wins an election, it will gain a 50% bonus to its influence point score for three days, to help it maintain the throne and give some stability. If a faction loses an election, it'll gain a 50% reduction to its influence for 3 days, stalling another attempt.

The King can apportion his 100 Q6s any way he pleases, either to allies for helping him win the throne, to his own supporters, or to himself. Please bear in mind, betrayed allies may well rebel and call an election out of spite!

The Small Council

The King of Game of Thrones appoints his Small Council to run the realm. It has the following positions:

Hand of the King- The real ruler of the realm

Master of whispers- government leader of spies!

Master of coin- money man

Commander of the City Watch- leader of the police!

Maester of the Citadel- Chief healer of the nation, also speaks for the king.

The small council is very important. When a new king is elected, they can appoint their own small council. The council will, for now, add prestige to the house from which they come, but will have more powers as the game becomes more complex! For now, each house should try to get members onto the council to improve their own prestige and thus points for voting.

Stage One Commences

Our game will not finish the way it starts. In this first 'stage' of the game, the houses will merely establish themselves, recruit members, gain influence points, and form alliances with other houses. We'll have simple elections for Kings and they can elect a small council / rp to their heart's content, but we intend to add some genuinely interesting strategy gameplay based around the Westeros map too (think Medieval: Total war style), so stay tuned for that.

I've formally started House Baratheon for myself,
if you want to start one of the other houses up as leader, it'll be based on whoever posts here, first come first served! Everything goes, you can be coup'd if others persuade an admin to replace you!!!

All thoughts welcome below, and signups for House Baratheon are already open!

PLEASE NOTE: The main base of operations for GoT will be the official UK Forums, which can be found at This location. To take part you must be a member there.
